1 of Nicholas Cage's best movies about him being a lost soul
Nicolas Cage plays a very unhappy man in Weatherman. He’s divorced. He’s disconnected from his two children and his father played by Michael Caine. He’s got a heart but he’s really a lost soul. He doesn’t know how to socialize with anyone and is really awkward as a result. You feel for the guy because he tries but it just doesn’t work out. The movie is about one botched situation after another and whether Cage can making something of that. Will he let these scenes destroy him or will he be able to work something out and find balance and happiness? It’s a very unusual and unlikely story. There’s some symbolism in the movie as well. Cage talks about how he’s a successful TV personality and how his job is easy, but on the other hand people hate him and think he knows everything about the weather when he’s not even a meteorologist. This is what his life is like. He appears to have it made, but there are all kinds of problems behind the scenes and his life is a real struggle. This is not one of the movies that Cage is famous for but I think it’s one of his best.

Not a light hearted comedy
I loved this movie for Nicolas Cage's performance. He def shows he deserved his Oscar. In one scene, he breaks down in tears and it is the most natural thing, not a hint he is acting. I believe it is the best scene I have ever seen of a male actor crying. Michael Caine, whom I have always admired, his performance is strangely wooden. The movie is somewhat sad to me throughout, with little bright moments, and Cage's character wanting to make things better for his family. His former wife, an unlikable character to me, won't have it. It has a somewhat happy ending. It's worth it to watch Cage's perfomance.

Nicholas Cage as You Haven't Seen Him Before
This movie was totally worth watching unlike much of what's available today for our viewing pleasure. It's not a comedy. It's a heartfelt portrayal of Dad's, kids, wifes, mothers, divorce, death, rebirth and self-acceptance. If you have a kind heart, you will likely feel very good after watching this. But if you don't have a kind heart and/or prefer the Nicholas Cage who never smiles, shoots people a lot or gets shot at a lot, don't watch this movie. You won't enjoy it.As for me, I feel that this is absolutely the best Nicholas Cage movie I've ever seen. It was magnificent, and if you have a heart, it will definitely pull your heart strings. Loved it!!

The *actual* Weather Would Be More Enteraining
My God this film drags on. Summary : A bunch of upper middle class people have upper middle class struggles that are supposed to be endearing but aren't. --> So we are watching all Nic Cage movies (seriously don't ask why.) and we were told by people who lied to us that this was a good film. lol. It drags on for an eternity, and then the film's resolution seems accidentally devoid of meaning. There were so many ways Nic Cage's character could've really said something worth hearing about blended families, messy feelings, career balancing acts and strained paternal relationships. But instead he just took up the screen with that dumb slack-jawed-Kristen-Stewart-face and monologged until the credits rolled. Anyways, I am so tired of this movie marathon, he's made so many movies, we have so many left to watch, omg I am meltingintoameaninglesspuddlelikethismovie.

A brave film
The director and writer of The Weatherman are courageous. They avoid the usual Hollywood family drama cliches, and they avoid all the usual violence and sex.The typical moviegoer will hate this film. I liked it. Maybe I was in a certain mood. I'm a divorced parent, and I identified with Nicholas Cage's character. It's a great performance. In some ways, the film evokes the Coen Brothers' A Serious Man--the theme of American middle class ennui, and the deadpan humor and dialogue. It moves slowly, but there's no wasted screen time. The ending is simultaneously kind of happy and sad.Yes, there's a lot of cussing. But I didn't find it gratuitous. People cuss when they can't think of a better way to deal with their frustration. In addition, the city of Chicago is a star character. Bleak, windy, snowy Chicago in the wintertime--a perfect setting. The Weatherman is an odd film, also a very American film. The story could be interpreted as depressing, but the wry humor offsets that. You should give it a watch when you're in an introspective mood. And you'll also get some good laughs.

Great movie.
It's one of my favorite movies. It's an amazing story about American success but also a portrait of someone who can ruin everything good in his life. Self-destructive personality. The struggle to have a better life but... what is a better life? An amazing script and the fact that the story is based in the media/TV world makes it more appealing to me. It could end with Alfie's question: "What's this all about?"

Not Fluff
If you want something light & fun to watch, this isn't it. There is a story to tell here, & I am not entirely sure it was told all that well, but for some reason I still liked it. There is a lot of bad language which I felt it could have done without. Still to me its a story of the struggle to find meaning in life, and when it wasn't found, to accept life & try to be content with what you have left.

How can you predict the wind?
Nicolas Cage did a great job in this film along with the other actors. It deals with family issues, work, and life's messes. Good script plus it kept my attention. Cage's role is portrayed as a man on the brink of either breakdown or change. It was a good movie. The message at the end is clear. Michael Caine is a powerful father image for Cage, with Cage struggling for his own life to measure up to his dad's accomplishments.

It never rains but it pours for Cage
‘The Weather Man’ – a film about the life and times of a Chicago news weather man, or the last decent film Nicholas Cage has made (to date). It’s up to you to decide. Once upon a time Cage was Box Office dynamite. Nowadays, his star has shone on the ‘direct-to-DVD’ market and has become synonymous with over-acting and that awful remake of ‘The Wicker Man.’However, back in the day he used to be pretty good. Here, his ‘over-acting’ is turned down a notch or two and he does what he does best – give a decent performance. He plays a down-on-his-luck weather man for a (not particularly prestigious TV station. Just because he gets the occasional perk of being a – minor – celebrity, doesn’t mean his life is going that well. His wife has left him and kept the kids and house, his dad (wonderfully played by Michael Caine – sporting an unusual American accent) is pretty aloof, people keep throwing fast food at him on the street and the least said about his estranged kids the better. Therefore, despite his apparently privileged lifestyle, he still has plenty to complain about.I really enjoyed this film, which Cage bears completely on his shoulders. I really do think it’s his (last) best performance. If there is one criticism that might be levelled at the film it’s that it’s a little ‘unfocused.’ The story doesn’t really go anywhere as it’s mainly about following his life as he tries to… well, just go about his day to day business. There’s no real ‘beginning, middle and end’ as there is with most standard Hollywood films. It’s a ‘bittersweet’ drama that borders on black comedy. So, if you’re a fan of Cage at his best, or just like dark family dramas which have a touch of social commentary and don’t necessarily go anywhere, you should get something out of this one. Alas, poor Nick we remember him fondly.

Off target.
Not funny but sad. Caine and Cage fine actors but poorly matched and unconvincing as father and son. Compulsory advertising for naff films and junk food irritating. Script and cast looked set for sunshine, but it turned out cold and wet.
