Fantastic set and nice quality for the value, wide range of lovely fun colors
Well, I grabbed this on a limited time deal even though I didn’t need it. But it still had quite a few colors unique to it, and I do not pass up a decent looking set of 48 for that price! Let me tell you I was not only pleasantly surprised, it exceeded my expectations.I wished it was a metal (enamel?) tin that they usually come in, so I was already expecting to not like the plastic case. However it is very nice quality, sturdy, not at all flimsy, and honestly, I like the inside palette and the paint holders FAR better than those tins! I do like the tins overall shape better, but this is actually better because, unlike the tin, these pans don’t budge. It’s pretty cool. You have a nice, spacious side for your mixing area and the paints are snapped nicely and securely in removable groups of six. You could arrange this any way you want and then pop out the little six bunch for easy use. And unlike the tins, which slide along a metal track and don’t stay securely in place, these do snap in place, each section and every pan all snap in with ease and then they don’t move unless you move them, and I love that! The tins will never stay secure, and the pans constantly fall out. If you accidentally tip them, they go sliding and falling out, causing mess, frustration. THIS palette design eliminates ALL that nonsense! If the tins were made with this system, wow, that would be the best of both worlds. I just have a thing against plastic, so I’m impressed by how nice this is. It’s just a really sturdy, quality container that keeps those paints in there—you can hang this upside down and nothing will fall out. I expected them to be like Mei Liang which has a lovely tin, but a cheap plastic insert that is crinkled and cracked with paints just pushed in haphazardly and they don’t even fit. Not here! It’s really lovely.I enjoy the colors. I feel like I have everything I could possibly need and while there are a few very similar, no paint is looking exact to the point where you’re wondering why they chose the colors. There are a lot of blues I’m not sure I’d have gone with. I would have gone with a light pastel blue and light pink, green, etc.—soft pastel versions in each family rather than lots of blues that are a shade apart. Love the Cerulean and the flesh, which is almost always missing from most sets, so yay for that. It’s definitely far more yellow than in the photo, however. Speaking of yellow, the yellows are the one where I might say they are far too similar. Give me that pastel instead. But I love the plum, teal, cobalt teal included in the set. The tangerine and navy are also among my favorite colors. Also, there is a nice selection of browns with the must have reddish brown that can often be forgotten in palettes. I personally find a warm reddish brown necessary. Would’ve been great to have a maroon among the reds. These are just wishes, not anything that affects my overall opinion of the set. I always write these thinking oh maybe, just maybe they might be reading the feedback and consider some revisions, but truly, this is really great as it is. Anyway, happy to see a nice variety of browns here because many sets don’t offer enough variety in browns and earthy tones. This really has everything. Whatever you want to paint, you’re likely to find a color you’re looking for here. There are a lot of great colors and the quality is great for what you’re getting. I was able to start with a full rich pigment then pull it out to nice translucency. No problems or complaints, and the pigment is super nice. The one thing I was disappointed in is the absence of a swatch paper. That’s a must, in my opinion. I can’t go by photos of swatches. So unreliable, rarely accurate, and I need to have an actual swatch of the paint color on a sheet I can keep in the palette, so I know exactly what the color is going to look like on my paper. Granted, most (not all) were pretty decent representations, but it’s not what the paint will look like and it’s a necessary part of a watercolor set. I was surprised there wasn’t one. Of the 8 or so sets that I have, this was the first that didn’t have one. I am always excited to sit with a new set and do the swatch card—it’s fun, relaxing, helps me get to know my paints and see how they perform, and I want that card to be right there so I can easily find what I need. What a bummer when I discovered no swatch sheet.. So I had to put it in my watercolor journal, but I like the convenience of a provided card. I then thought, this isn’t helpful having them in my journal.I need to have it with the set. I had to sacrifice a piece of watercolor paper, which may not seem like a big deal, but for someone on a tight budget in art school, I need every sheet for actual projects, and it’s time consuming. Yes, I basically wasted a journal page—my bad—and it just would be nice to get the swatches done with a pre-made blank grid. Replace that cruddy useless print out and put in a swatch sheet of watercolor paper so we can do our own actual swatches that can then reference as we paint.I was impressed they included two water brushes, one flat, and they work fine. Can never hurt to have extra water brushes on hand. I don’t use them very much for paintings, but I enjoy using them for journaling. All in all, I’m just feeling really good about having a set of 48 lovely colors to play with in my mixed media and art journal pieces. It’s a lot of fun, and it was a fantastic deal. There’s really nothing to complain about with what you get for the price, and I’m very glad I jumped on the deal. Worth every penny and then some, for sure. I didn’t need it, but it dazzled me and the price was amazing. It has ended up being a happy addition and you just can’t beat the value. This set is just as nice as the more popular ones and better quality. I’d most certainly recommend this set for a beginner, for an art journal enthusiast and mixed media artists. Finally, NO, there is no pigment or lightfast info. Consider the price and understand what it is you want to do with paints like this, where you are in the learning process, etc. I always say, know your tools BEFORE you buy. If you are asking for lightfast info on a set this price point then you simply can’t be a watercolor artist because you’d know that you are going to pay and require professional brands. This set is a great one, but it’s not going to be for the professional watercolorist who shows and sells their work. Learn about paints, know what you are going to use them for, know what type of product will meet your needs, explore a couple beginner sets like this one. It’s perfect for students! A watercolorist shouldn’t even be looking here unless they just enjoy trying and reviewing products out, comparing them as informational support for those getting in to watercolor. It’s an unrealistic expectation that this would have info that a professional might need. But again, a seasoned person will know this and will go straight to a higher price point and trusted professional brand for that. Don’t be unfair and expect things to be what they aren’t and at this price.Additionally, this set is terrific for someone like me who is a seasoned mixed media artist who is taking classes in watercolor painting, and who loves to play with all media in journals and as part of a larger painting loaded with layers of media.Id recommend this for mixed media artists, for sure, and the paints work great with all the other media I use.The paints are very lovely to paint with, they lifted nicely on 140 lb. cold pressed quality paper. I did use them on a cheap paper, too, and they are still nice, but paper matters for watercolor paints, especially if the piece is mostly or all watercolor. If it’s just one of many different media then these are fabulous! A wonderful color range to play with! They are AMAZING to create a wonderful background with in mixed media! These are fun for journaling and mixed media projects and, of course, would be terrific for paint parties and kids. They have been great for me to practice with as I’m studying watercolor so I can incorporate it more centrally in my mixed media art and really don’t plan on mixing my own colors a lot. There are so many beautiful colors. Definitely recommend!

For Professional Artists too!
I just received these a couple of hours ago. Very impressed. I use Daniel Smith, Schminke, M Graham professional watercolors but I wanted this to do quick urban watercolor sketches. I can honestly say they are as good as my pro watercolors. All different brands of watercolors have a learning curve but these are a dream to work with. A good set to carry on trips. I dont understand people saying they cant make the waterbrushes work. Made in China, as are most of them, so they screw BACKWARDS. Then remove the little black plug & fill. These are better than most. The palette is wonderful. All in all, you cant go wrong with these. Think I'm going to buy two more so I wont be without! El Rancho Loco Art, Kat

4.5 Stars, great set for beginners
Color selection is really good I just would've liked to see some lighter shades (especially with the purple/violets). Or better yet, I really wish paint sets included 2 whites since it's a highly used color for mixing colors and creating custom (light) colors/ shades. Also, I love the included removable mixing pallete and use it constantly. I also love that I can remove, replace and/or rearrange the paint pans giving me the ability to customize my pallete based on specific needs with my current project. The paints, for the most part, are easy to work with and they aren't to translucent nor too opaque (with the exception of only abcouple colors being a either just a little too translucent or little too opaque). They colors are vibrant and bold and blend pretty nicely. ....

Love This Set!
I have been a “beginner” artist for quite some time. That said, I do not enjoy having to refer to a color wheel to get the perfect shade I need. This set comes with 48 colors along with a chart showing each pans color spectrum. The colors are smooth and vibrant. I have purchased other sets but this one is by far the best. I don’t necessarily use the water brushes that are included…but they would be handy for painting on the go!

Great variety, great pigmentation, great brushes!
I'm just beginning with watercolor and I love this set. Everything I painted in the pictures was painted with just this set, including the paint brushes. I cannot get the brushes open to fill with water, they just won't twist, but I prefer dipping anyway. One provides a very fine point for even the most detailed butterflies and the colors in the set are a great variety. The colors are very pigmented, just a little dip of water will get you a pretty saturated color! The mixing pallet is great to work with, though does retain color. Would buy again, fantastic set.
