In the Old West of popular imagination, the story usually ends with an arrest or a shootout (or a hanging). In this new book by Bob Alexander and Richard Alford, however, we're reminded that for those who had finally been reached by the long arm of the law, justice would indeed take its course and the prison experience is an important, if not overlooked, part of the story of law and order in the frontier. There aren't many books on western prisons, but this one certainly helps fill the gap.
