Worked like a charm
This is a great invention! My 5 month old yorkie took to it very quickly with little training. She did not like puppy pads and it was impossible to get her to use them. I did place a used puppy pad from her crate under the grass mat when I first got it so that she could smell her scent. She took to it very quickly for peeing. It took a little longer for her to consistently poop on it. However once I made sure to reward her immediately when she pooped on it she started to figure it out. We work long hours somedays and so I keep it in the house still for her to use even though she is almost a year old now and she uses it no problem. I place the puppy pads under the grass pad for easier clean up. I will say the downside to them is that the grass starts smelling unbearably like other people say and pretty quickly too. No matter how much I hosed it off and cleaned it with soap and bleach-and dryed it in the sun for a few days. Since then I have bought other fake grass from the hardware store and i just use the tray that this came with and it has lasted much longer as far as not smelling. (The grass is cheaper to replace too).

My dog loves this thing!!
My dog loves this thing!! He pees on it. Poops on it. And even Sunbathes on it. I've had mine almost a year now and didn't take too good of care of the grass as far as cleaning it all the time which I'm a little embarrassed to admit. It was long overdue for replacing the grass cause it started to get super yucky looking from all the pee. I do have those pee pads under the grass to catch his pee on so it preserves the tray and is easier to clean up.The thing held together and was still all in one piece when I threw It away. No fraying or anything like some reviewers say on some of the competitors grass patches. This one was quite durable. Honestly the grass should probably be replaced every six months. I've had mine almost a year and just now got around to replacing it. It was way overdue for a grass replacement.Cons - replacing the grass costs almost the same price as just getting a completely new one. Wish the replacement grass was cheaper but still I think I got one for around 10-15$. So still quite affordable. When I first got it he went right over to it and knew immediately what to do. I hear some people have a hard time getting their dog to pee on it. I didn't have this problem but something I read was if you want a dog to pee in a certain spot you should put some of your own pee on that spot first and he'll smell it and "mark" it with his own scent if you know what i mean 😉 and once a dog pees in one place they tend to always go back and pee there. Also can't remember if the grass came rolled up in the originally package or was laying flat but the replacement came rolled up and didn't lay flat. I took some pebbles from outside and laid them on the edges where they wouldn't lay flat for a couple of days and that worked like a charm. No problem with the grass curling up after removing the stones.I'm actually thinking about ordering another one for the other corner of my patio since my dog likes it so much.

Perfect solution for my dog
This is perfect for my 10 lb. terrier, but probably too small for a larger animal. Coyotes have been killing neighborhood pets, and I can no longer let her out unsupervised. She was perfectly house trained, and still is, but she's also smart enough to use this mat. I have two of them. Every time she would "go potty" outdoors, I said the words, "Go potty " and praised the heck out of her. I introduced the patch, sprayed some puppy pee attractant to begin with, rubbed a tiny bit of her own urine and poo gathered from outdoors (what we won't do for our pets...) and brought some treats over to the patch and when she walked on it I used the cue phrase and gave her a treat. She got the idea. Now, if I am gone for more than a few hours I do not worry. This is simply some outdoor grass in a plastic tray. It is easy to clean with a hose, and I bought another one to use while one is drying out. I took off a star because the tray is flimsier than I would like, however serviceable. It keeps my floors clean and is not unsightly, hidden behind a large armchair. I have not had odor problems, but I do clean it after she uses it.I know some reviewers have problems and I can understand. I think a puppy might have a fine time ripping this to shreds, but for my small, older, quieter dog it has been invaluable.

Great, worked like charm
Great, worked like charm!.. at first. But then you start to notice the flaws, such as the fact that its not secured down so my puppy would just pull the grass out. And also it does start to horribly smell of pee after a bit. I know you can buy replacements, but it's meant to be washable. That was not the case. The fake grass would fall out and wherever it was the room stank of pre till it dried... not a fun experience. But good for someone who is willing to get creative to keep the grass in and also are willing to pay frequently to replace the grass.
