A Dark Twist On Christmas Folklore
The last thing I thought I would be doing was buying an Art Of book for the movie 'Krampus'. I bought this book after watching it because the production design on this film is *that* good. One normally doesn't associate Christmas with horror. Krampus pleasantly surprised, and scared, everyone that saw it when it came out. I wanted to look behind the curtains at all the ideas they came up with before they chose their memorable final designs. I won't talk about any specific characters as I feel that's a bit spoilery for those that have not seen the film yet; it's best seen not know much. This is a well-made Art Of book (and I own many) that is nicely formatted and designed, with a large amount of unreleased artwork, select stories behind some of the pieces, and an insight into the creative goals involved during the production process. There are very few screenshots from the movie (compared to lesser Art Of books) filling in the pages. What you get here are ideas about what would elves, toys, and even an anti-Santa look like if someone like the Brothers Grimm told the story? The book is filled with lots of gorgeous (and nightmarish) conceptual art for the characters, locations, and includes original storyboards. The Art of Krampus explores the fairy tale aspects of Christmas folklore—but with a dark twist. There is a lot of beauty in seeing the dark side of things. Recommended.

A Cool Look at a Good Film
Amazon: your book description questions make no sense. This is a production and concept art book for a feature film, not a narrative. Get it together, man.On that note; it's pretty good. Admittedly this is my first "art of the film" book so I don't know what I was expecting but I like it. A lot of our students are interested in getting involved in film and video game concept art and they've all seen this film so I got it as much for them as me. One thing I was pleasantly surprised by is that this book delves into the history of the Krampus figure substantially in addition to the history of the film's development. It's a little light on actual preliminary design, I feel, but the photos of the practically created monsters are a sight to behold. And, unlike many "art of" books that I've casually leafed through it doesn't rely on candid shots of actors as filler. And as big a Dave Koechner fan as I am, I was very pleased about that. If you're as much a fan of the film as I am you'll appreciate it regardless, clearly. But if you're a deeper fan of art and film you'll appreciate it that much more.

Fun and informative
In love with this book. I am a big fan of the movie and the lore, and this book delves into both. Starting with the initial concepts, story development, and art design it is a fun read and nice glimpse at the behind the scenes efforts to make Krampus come alive.

Quality
This is a quality book that shares the lore of Krampus and the art behind the movie. I bought it for the horror fanatic in our family and he LOVED it. The book is great quality in terms of printing and binding. The book came skrink wrapped so the over was protected during shipping and arrived in pristine condition. The only downfall was I couldn't sneak a peek at the book before gifting it thanks to that shrink wrap! But that's more a me issue and less a fault. I would definitely buy this book again. I may buy a copy for myself!

Facinating
Beautiful book. Under the dust jacket, it is a handsome burgundy color with black title. Full of sketches, concept art, and stills from the movie. Great background information and explanations of various scenes. The information on and photos of the construction of Krampus and the other characters was facinating. I adore the movie and am pleased as punch to be able to own this book.

A perfect gift for my artist daughter!
My daughter is a conceptual artist and loves books like this one. The movie was excellent so it was interesting to see how the scenes, characters, and especially the monsters developed from idea to screen. A very nice book with beautiful heavy pages and sharp images. Well worth the money, if you love film art or horror flicks!
