Interesting!
Having lived in Boston, I found this book fascinating! As I read about the different criminals and gangs, I was transported to a different time and felt like I was walking down the historical streets. If you want to learn more about Boston and its criminal history, go ahead and enjoy the great stories.

Great history of our beloved Boston.
Very good read, like re-living the nightly news stories only better details. I think people felt safer in those days and the state govt. was run better.

An excellent deep dive into Boston's early criminal history
Excellent piece of work! Boston true crime stories seem to always revolve around the same couple of topics. This compilation of anecdotes and well-researched historical accounts provides a great window into Boston's fascinating criminal history long before Whitey Bulger or even the Brinks robbery. I learned a LOT of things about turn-of-the-Century and early 20th Century Boston that I hadn't known - and I've worked in the city 20 years and lived in Greater Boston most of my life. Really enjoyed this.

Great gift!
Gave this to my dad and he loved it. Emily Sweeney is a talented writer and really captures the history of Boston's underground.

Such a good read
All true stories. Very interesting to read how things were even back in the early 1900s. It was rough times for those lived close to all these happenings

Just the facts...
I was disappointed in this book. The writing style was straightforward and factual, but short on detail or analysis. One might pick out certain well-known characters to get to know a little more about them, but this isn't a book someone would sit down and read for pleasure. I do feel it would be of interest to lifelong Bostonians, who might be better able to relate to the people, places and situations involved, but most of this would not hold the average readers' interest. Sorry--with all due respect, but only two stars.

A Good Read
This book is a good read for anybody that wants to know a lot of brief information about several Boston Gangsters. If you want a more detailed and thorough read on gangs and gangsters of Boston then I would look else where. It does give you a lot of good information on various people, events and places, it just does not give you a full story of the people mentioned, at least some of them. The only thing I did not like was that the author never said what happened to Steve Gustin, even at the end of the book when it it had the where are they now section. All in all I would say that this book is worth the read if you are interested in Boston's underworld history. 8/10
