Good Adventure Stories
This book is a collection of Junger's articles. As such, it feels a little disjointed. The topics of the articles range from smoke jumpers who fight wildfires in the western U.S. to the diamond trade in Sierra Leone to the wars in Kosovo and Afghanistan. But if the topics seem unrelated, the book holds together in its sense of urgency and suspense, and the theme of a chaotic world in which the forces of nature and humanity constantly threaten to overwhelm the protagonists. Junger's style is sparse and to the point, but he paints vivid pictures and his page-turning narrative style makes it hard to put this book down.

Well-worth the Read
While this book may not quite stand up to some of Junger's other works (like War, or Perfect Storm) and there is still much to appreciate about Fire, and well-worth the read. The title is somewhat misleading, as others have said. A better title might have been "Fire and Other Essays." This is a collection and each essay/article is written with Junger's style - direct and frank description of the dangers faced by individuals.

gift
It seems to have a format which is different from the one I bought years ago. That s a disappointment to me.

Almost
Not quite done reading but so far, very interesting read. I was surprised when the story of the Hotshots ended and the author moved on to Kosovo, and Kashmir. Still have about 100pp left but am already a fan of the author of "A Perfect Storm" and the number of documentaries he reported.

Like Hunter before the drugs
Little shorter than I thought, but man this guy can write.

It isn't just about firefighting.
I was surprised when the topics changed at first. I didn't know this was a collection of a variety of risks and adventure. Pretty interesting, though.

The title do s not match the content
As much as I enjoy the author and his eloquent writing/ story telling this book was not at all what I expected. The first 2 chapters were about fire (excellent) the rest was a collection of war stories from across the world. I enjoyed the book but recommend it with a word of caution; this is a rather graphic and brutal collection of stories & not for the faint of heart.
