Funny, touching, original, and charming.
It's unusual to find a really original story these days, but this is one of them. The characters are well defined and sympathetic. I bought the audio book -- the reader is superb and does different voices for each character. I just love it. I actually bought this as a replacement because I lost my other copy -- and have listened to it several times over the past few years. A keeper. If you like this one, try another of his books, "Framed." It does help if you are familiar with some of the British terms though.

loved the book, loved the movie
This is about as sweet of a story as you could wish for-but not at all sickly sweet. Nope, this is just plain beautiful and satisfying. I wasn't too keen on the way the 'Mormons' were portrayed- & as I am one, I must mention, they weren't at all authentic. I think he mixes them up with our 'Missionaries' we send out. But that actually gave me a laugh to see the writers perspective. This book also made me want to go dig a well in Africa. Or, better yet, to actually donate to one.

Great book, but no bonus material
I love, love, love this book and re-read it regularly! Like C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia, it is a children's book that speaks to adults. I have the print book and the movie. I originally gave this edition only 4 stars because it is advertised as having bonus material, including discussion questions by the author. Disappointingly, it does not have bonus material. I only bought the Kindle version to get the discussion questions, so I didn't get what I wanted.

Don't Miss This Wonderful Book!
This is a great book for all ages. It's very well written and so original you will remember it forever. Damian has to be one of the best characters to appear in a book in years. The book somehow manages to be hysterically funny, achingly sad and spiritually uplifting. The excellent movie adaptation closely follows the book though the book has more depth and background than the movie can provide. I'm actually not sure which came first the book or the screenplay but they enhance each other and Frank Cottrell Boyce is the author of both.

Very slow start
Hard for me to get kids into this book. They are still stuck at the beginning. But may be a good conversation for kids book club

Favorite Book of Mine
I ordered many copies of this book about 8 years ago and gave them to friends and family. I received positive feedback from everyone including my 60 something husband and my 20-y.o. daughter. I also bought the cd audio book. I just bought another copy for a friend to read. Even though the book is probably written for a pre-teen reader, it is very appropriate for adults and older readers. I find this book to be inspiring especially at the end which is a bit of a surprise.

Read the book first
I really enjoyed this movie, however, I had read the book first. The author, who also wrote the screenplay, really explained things in the book that only appeared briefly on the screen (I'm thinking, for example, of the scene in which the boy frees the birds. Much better in the book.) I'm not sure I would have had the same enjoyment of the movie had I not read the book.

If You Want To Feel Good------
I love this movie! I love this little boy!I bought the DVD first and then the book. I truly enjoyed both. The actor, Alex Etel, has grown into a teenager, but he will remain that sweet little boy forever on the DVD. You will smile and have tears both as you watch the film. When you read the book it is so easy to visualize the characters. I cared about these people and wanted them to do well. You will too. And if you want to feel good when a movie is over, buy the DVD too.

THE MAIN THING I DON’T LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK IS BECAUSE THEY DON’T TELL THEIR ...
The following is a report of my 9 yr old son on the book.MILLIONS BY MR. BOYCE IS A BOOK BASED ON TWO BOYS, DAMIAN AND ANTHONY.ONE USUAL DAY, DAMIAN SAW A BAG FULL OF MONEY FALL RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM FROM THE SKY AND THE 2 BOYS TRY TO SPEND THE 229370 POUNDS STERLING FULL OF BAG IN 17 DAYS BEFORE THE CURRENCY CHANGES. THE AUTHOR DID WRITE TOO MANY DETAILS AND THE TRAIN ROBBERY IS MENTIONED AT THE ALMOST ENDING PART OF THE STORY SO IT DOESN’T HAVE TO DO WITH THE STORY MUCH.THE BEGINNING OF THE STORY STARTS WITH A UNUSUAL HEADING AND THE LAST TOO. THE WAY MR. BOYCE WROTE IT, DIDN’T SEEM MUCH INTERESTING.DAMIAN’S BROTHER IS DISOBEDIENT AND WASTES MONEY ON RUBBISH AND WHENEVER SOMEONE CATCHES HIM OR GETS SUSPICIOUS, HE SAY’S ,MY “MY MOM IS DEAD” (WHICH IS TRUE) TO GET OUT OF TROUBLE OR TO GET GIFTS.DAMIAN IS VERY OBSESSED WITH SAINTS AND SEES DEAD ONES AS VISIONS.THE MAIN THING I DON’T LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK IS BECAUSE THEY DON’T TELL THEIR DAD BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT WILL HAVE 40 % OF IT.I GIVE THE BOOK 1 AND HALF STARS OUT OF 5.BYADITYA KUMAR DAS

Millions of good reasons to read...
We bought this book for our 'level 6' class because Mrs Sedgwick's mum (who is a librarian) said it was well-written and demanding. However, had I just seen it in the library I wouldn't even have read the blurb...but as it turns out, it is an amazing story and I am so glad that we got the chance to give it a try.Overall, it is about a torn family who are grieving the death of Damian and Anthony's mum (we assume from cancer, but the book isn't clear on that). It also has other meanings such as the fact that even though you may have all the things you think you WANT, money cannot buy you the things you NEED. When a young boy finds a bag of money at the time in which the currency is changing to Euros, so it only has value for 17 more days, he and his brother have to spend quickly. Damian thinks it is a gift from God and needs to be spent doing good; Anthony, his brother, prefers to indulge his taste in extravagance and real estate! Somehow, through a series of exciting adventures, Damian brings the family back together and they all discover that family and friends matter more than any amount of cash!Personally, I would give this book five stars. Well done, Frank Cottrell Boyce - let's have a few more books. EH
