Surprisingly good trumpet at a fantastic price!
Time will tell how much the finish wears but for now it looks great. I watched videos of people that had it for 2 years or more and they didn't mention any problem with that.Strait out of the box with no lube or oil, everything moved as it should (though of course the slides felt dry because they were) and I wasn't getting any sticking valves. I oiled the valves and they feel and work like they should. On the note of the valves, I had seen a video where someone showed that their valves were not perfectly in line...one was slightly but noticably off center but mine are not so that's nice. The valves clicked into alignment when put back in after oiling...read one review saying their valves didn't do either they got a random defect or I got lucky. This is my first Mendini trumpet so I can't say for sure.Congress with the standard 7c mouthpiece, nothing noteworthy one way or another there. It plays just fine. I also ordered a Cecilio branded 3C mouthpiece which I like the green of better personally. There's no problem with the 7c it comes with to get a beginner started though.Ok on to how did it sound. To my ear it sounds good. I could play smoothly or more articulated and it never sounded too airy or mushy. Now, if you put it next to a professional horn it's not going to win, but it's not intended to be a pro player's primary instrument so I have to give it high marks in tone quality. The only small issue I'm feeling is that at the bottom of it's register it does, at least with me playing it, start to sound airy, but it's only the lowest couple half steps and it could just be me. I don't count much off for this because realistically, a beginner is probably not going to be playing those notes nearly as much. On a high note, pun intended, I was able to very easily play a 2 octave C scale starting at middle C. The second octave was surprisingly open and easy. This trumpet will not slow down a beginner working to extend their high range. The case is pretty nice for what it is and definitely good enough to last awhile even for a kid in beginning band. It does come with a bottle of valve oil (I had to carefully poke a hole in the tip as it was sealed. I've never seen that happen in all the valve oils I've gone through but eh, not a problem). My only gripe isn't a huge deal... It would've been nice for a simple cleaning kit and slide grease to be included as well. Those things are not expensive to add on thankfully, but for being aimed at beginners who may not know what else to get for it to get started, it would've been handy to have the full kit. It does include a trumpet stand though which gets bonus points. I thought the little trumpet book would basically be worthless but I am happy to say I was wrong. It looks to actually have some really good info about using a trumpet and had scales and exercises and such as well.Final word, this trumpet is a fantastic deal for beginners or even for experienced people as a good backup horn. If I was a pro I probably wouldn't have it as my primary, but it's worth having around! Excellent value for a family that might not have a lot of money to spend on getting their kid started with music. You won't be disappointed.

Great Value!
Great trumpet for the money. If you're like me...a former musician past his prime who just wants a pretty horn to toot once in a while and look pretty, it definitely fits the bill. The tone quality is good enough, though nothing spectacular. The build quality is fine, though I agree with other reviews that the valve guides are lacking. I had a hard time getting the first valve to seat correctly after oiling it right out of the box.The case is functional, nothing special. The metronome/tuner is nice as a freebie, but I'd never pay money for it. The stand is nifty and I nice thing to include. The small booklet it comes with is actually very helpful for beginners, and was a nice little refresher for me after all these years. If you're looking for a cheap way to reconnect with your musical roots, or for a good beginner horn for a student, this is a good buy.

No complaints
Let me start by saying that I know nothing about trumpets. I bought this for my 11-year-old son who was just starting lessons at school as part of his school band. I bought it because it was relatively cheap and I didn't know how well he would take to the instrument. I certainly didn't like the idea of spending $1000 on a short-lived hobby, or throwing away money indefinitely to rent something expensive that he might lose or break. My son has now been playing this trumpet for a year and a half. He played some songs for me the other night, and I have to say he sounded great. I've had none of the quality issues described by other users. The thing has held together very well, even with a bit of abuse (it fell onto the concrete once when he forgot to zip up the case). I see no sharp edges described by other reviewers. I try to be vigilant about keeping the valves oiled according to instructions I find online, but I know there have been spans of many months where I neglected to do any maintenance at all. I've never had to fix any part of it or spend any more than my initial investment.I have no complaints about this trumpet, but I would feel dishonest giving it 5 stars, since I have nothing to compare it to. It does exactly what I expected it to do for as long as we've owned it. Now that my son has really taken to the instrument, I'll look into getting something "better" for him, but I'll have to rely on the word of instrument salesmen and reviews from professionals. But for the 1.5 years that we've used this thing, I think it's been a great investment. Even if we retire it from service, it will still be beautiful to look at, or be a good starter trumpet for the next kid.

Perfect for beginners
This trumpet was recommended by my son’s trumpet teacher. I was worried the low cost would reflect the value of the product considering some trumpets are upwards of $600 and reach into the thousands. The teacher assured us that this would be a great beginner trumpet and could even be used into high school for marching band. My son is in the seventh grade and this will be his second year playing. I have no regrets whatsoever. The trumpet is durable, shiny, and sounds better than the school-issued trumpet.
