Fantastic - must have for serious pen turners
I don't understand the one star reviews. Have these people actually used these bits? I have, and I have used them a lot. They work so well I have been replacing my other bits one at a time with Fisch pen drilling bits and I no longer buy the inferior bits. These run cooler and truer than other bits, so there is less (read NO) trouble with blow out. They also exit cleanly, so no need to do anything fancy to prevent tear out on the back side of the blank. Expensive, but worth it.

Nice clean holes in my pen blanks
I recently had an order for 50 pens and wanted a better drill bit than I currently had for drilling the blanks. This makes nice clean holes, stays relatively cool due to the aggressive spiral cut and drilled through all the blanks (a dense tropical hardwood) without complaint. When this one wears out and I can't sharpen it, I'll order another. Very impressed.

bit is very pong wan ponders ing some woods
it's a great 7mm bit and removes the cuttings better than any other, but the is so long 150mm( 6.3") the it sometime follows the the wood grain and come out he far side on the project up to 3/8" out of alignment in two inch thick stock. It would be great if they made 7mm bit that was only 100mm (4.3") long which would be much stiffer for drilling 2.2" pen banks. wes

Wandered off
No luck for me with this bit. After starting with the brad point, it dug in off to the side and kept going. I thought it would snap. It does cut fast and cleans itself out. I'm using it on the lathe with pin vise jaws to hold the blank. The blank is laminated, so that may be the reason. I'll try it on solid blanks and on the drill press later, but I thought this would work better.

This bit cuts cleanly and produced excellent results with no breakout when drilling through the material
This bit was purchased for drilling in acrylic stock used in making turned pens. This bit cuts cleanly and produced excellent results with no breakout when drilling through the material.

You want this.
If you're still using normal brad-point drill bits on your pen blanks, you don't know what you're missing. This bit is faster, cleaner, and safer.Faster because it just SHOVELS the chips out -- less chip binding in the flutes means less up-and-down with the drill press.Cleaner because less binding in the flutes also means less burning. It's also tightly centered at the start of the hole, much like a brad-point bit.And safer (for your blank) because its design makes it far less likely to blow-out as it exits the bottom of the blank.I really had no idea what I was missing.

Good, solid quality.
Fisch makes great drill bits. I bought this because I needed something long to replace the long 7mm no-name bit I had before that lasted 1/2 a drill into soft wood before it deformed and snapped. No more cheap brand bits for me.

Best I have used
I have found these Fisch drill bits to be the finest bits for drilling both wood and acrylic pen blanks. I've been woodturning and pen making for 12 years and these are the best I've ever used.
