Q: Hi, does it fit on a Hyundai i30 ??

It fits into both my Toyota cars, it screws into the air/heating vent.

Q: How wide is the arm with the hook on the end? Usually these don't fit between the verticals that go along my horizontal vents...

The arm is quite narrow(prob less than 1/2 inch). I have mine in a volvo , vent also has vertical slots u talk about, & fits no probs. Item is meant to be universal so u should have no problem fitting.

It’s part of the unit as it arrives in the box look at the back of the unit there is a hook release the retaining nut you can then push the hook into the air vent against a light spring to hook the vent and secure it in place with the retaining nut.
