A must read for Christians in the US and beyond
Disclaimer: I worked on staff at a church with Daniel Hill 20 years ago but haven’t had much interaction since with life and all of that.During that time, 20 some years ago, Daniel discovered a passion and a calling that I cared about but didn’t comprehend fully. Daniel devoted his life, every aspect, to identifying and uprooting white supremacy. He dove in for 2 decades to building a multi-ethnic community church of Christ followers to reflect more of the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven. He has been one of just a few white Christian leaders on a national stage who has held on strong to the convictions of equality over time and has given prophetic, disproportionate attention to loving the marginalized, elevating the voices of the voiceless, and paying the personal cost along the way. If I could go back 2 decades in my life, I would live more like Daniel Hill. This book, White Lies, in my opinion, should be essential reading for every white Christian in the United States and beyond. Let’s learn from a humble man who has walked the walk, lived the talk, and counted the cost. This is a practical read, based in countless conversations, moments of compassion, deep Biblical study, and God-given wisdom. Even if you don’t agree with everything Daniel says or the concept of white privilege, wouldn’t you want to learn from someone with character that matches Christ-likeness who has lived what he preaches and has something worth listening too?Buy this book, read with an open mind and a surrendered heart, compare it to scripture along the way, and see what God does.

This is a Christian book- disappointed.
I haven't actually read it yet. I was disappointed that I accidentally bought a Christian book. I know I need to give it a chance but for now it is at the bottom of the pile. I do see the power of White people talking to white people about ending racism. Right now I am reading Me and White Supremacy which was written by a Black woman and purchased at a Black- owned local bookstore. My own Christian diocese "means well" and "donates" but has absolutely zero clue. It makes me sick and sad. I was raised Christian. Most Christians mean well but can't see how they participate in racist harm, or fall politically on the right and don't understand. They tend to "Back the Blue." They are opposed to work that aims to end racist harm and BLM. They say things like educating about and preventing racism is divisive. They think that if Black people just stopped being criminals and did what they were told they would be able to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. They think "all that anger" is off-putting. So... I do have evangelical relatives and friends who think they are following Christ's teachings. This book might give me some talking points with them. But for now it is at the bottom of the pile. I prefer to be led by Black leaders instead of talking about Black issues. Black liberation theology preachers are what I need right now and if other white Christians would listen to them too we'd get these sins off our plates and worknrestorative justice immediately. I wonder if I will find in this book the fire needed to galvanize a white majority to actually understand and work to end racist harm.

Essential reading
If you are committed to learning and unlearning about the forces behind white supremacy, this book must be at the top of your list. Daniel speaks with humility but authority and conviction. It’s lived out and personal for him, and he often invokes his own stories/experiences of confronting the lies he is writing about. He shares from a place of both loving the church and people of God, but he is determined to see the evils of white supremacy rooted out of Christianity. There is an unveiling that happens while reading this book. It will help anyone on a journey towards the truth and justice of Jesus see themselves and the world more clearly.

Practical guide for combatting the culture of White Supremacy in churches.
I read White Awake and this was a great follow-up. Hill explains the problem in White dominated churches clearly and addresses the core reasons why current racial reconciliation efforts have been mostly unsuccessful. He explains that White Supremacy is really intertwined in the American majority white churches (even though few are willing to admit it) and must be uprooted before reconciliation can happen. This is not an easy task, but we need to be able to identify the source of the problem before we can solve it. I appreciated the practical advice for those in these spaces who want to work toward authentic, lasting change.

Illuminating and transparent
As a Christ-follower, who was born Black, over the years I often cried out to the Lord asking, "How could White 'Christians' commit such heinous acts and still claim to believe in You?" Daniel Hill not only answered my questions from a Biblical perspective that was refreshing, but he also authenticated his message by sharing his own challenges. It is one I'll be recommending as a guide for in-depth discussion. I think it would also be good to use for a book study.

I opening and easy to read!
This book is tackling very difficult and complex subjects that could very easily offend people and turn them off. Complex ideas are clearly conveyed and easy to digest. Difficult and sensitive material is explained without placing blame or judgment, it just lays out the facts and lets the reader draw their own conclusions.

Relevant and filled with revelation
I am really trying to learn and become anti-racist. Daniel Hill lays it all out there He literally says what you are thinking as a white person. I have listened to his podcast but he tells stories and explains his journey. Get his first book too

Must REad
If you care about the racial disparity in our country, this book is a must read. It is treated fairly and comprehensively. Both my black and white friends agree that this is a great read.
