BLACK+DECKER 40V MAX String Trimmer/Edger and Sweeper Combo with Easy-Fit All Purpose Glove (LCC140 & BD505L)

The Black & Decker LCC140 (with Blower) was my first experience with purchasing a weed trimmer, and I think it was the right choice.Putting everything together was a breeze — just needed a phillips head screwdriver and about 10 - 15 minutes, and everything was ready to go. The 40-v battery needed a bit of a charge beforehand, but it seems to charge relatively quickly. After that, I was ready to give this thing a spin.The weed trimmer performed very well. It cut down most weeds and grass on the lowest speed (the speed settings go from one, the lowest, to six, the highest), although I mostly kept it on speed two. It took down everything I needed it to. When I got into significantly larger stuff, it performed in those situations too. I cranked it up to speed six to make things go quicker and smoother, which I think was necessary in those situations, but it took down most of the larger weeds I had. In those situations it exceeded expectations, in fact. Cranking the power to level six does have its obvious drawback — it sucked up a lot of power very quickly, but I feel the benefits outweighed everything.Speaking of weight — this thing is light. I recently had a serious back surgery, so I'm hesitant to lift heavy things and do lifting for an extended period of time, but the LCC140 did well. I didn't feel that much, if any, strain on my back. It was actually my shoulder muscles that felt worked out in the end, which I was happy with. It is very light, while not feeling flimsy (although the locking mechanism that works with extending or shortening the length of the trimer does feel a bit cheap).(Special note for those of you who are blessed with height: I'm 6'3", and I did wish there was two or three more inches of length on this weed trimmer. I think it would have been absolutely perfect if it was. But this is a minor thing, and other weed trimmers I tested at the home improvement stores were actually a bit shorter. If you're taller than me, keep this in mind, but, again, it was the best I could find in this price range.)Overall, the trimmer gets a 5 out of 5 from me, but just keep in mind that I've only just started using it.The other part is the leaf blower. It snapped together in three pieces (although it did require a bit of force to get all of them together), and after that, I just needed to insert the battery and adjust the power (again, from one to six, with one being the lowest). It was fully capable of blowing out all the junk, leaves, and other things from my garage, so I was very happy about that. Additionally, after trimming around the driveway, this thing removed all the clippings. There's not too much to say about it, but it seems to work really well. Maybe it could pack a little bit more of a punch; however, other reviews I've read on Amazon made me worry that it wasn't capable of blowing anything, and that simply was not the case. It works well and I believe it's a good value to to toss into the package.This is why I'm giving the overall package a 5 out of 5. Everything is working in order, and some bits exceeded my expectations.

Original review:I think what you have to ask yourself is: are the trade-offs worth the benefits of this system. For me the answer is yes. I love these two tools. Sure, it's not the most powerful blower and trimmer on the market, but, for me, the best tools are the ones I'll actually use. I found that with electrical corded equipment I almost never used them because of the hassle of getting the extension cord out and then putting it away. And with gas powered anything you have the added hassle of regular maintenance. With this battery powered set I simply grab the battery and tool I need and go to work. When I'm done I take the battery out maybe brush some grass off the trimmer and call it a day. I'm much more likely to take care of the small jobs as they popup with a battery powered tool. I regularly use the blower once or twice a week verses the corded blower that I only used two or three times a year.Pros: Super convenient to pick up, use, and put away compared to any gas or corded alternatives. Battery lasts long enough for me to take care of the front and backyard on one charge. Battery has a power meter built in so you can quickly gauge your time remaining. This set comes with the LBXR2036 battery that's rated for 2.0 amp hours. Tools are good quality and I've never had anything break. The trimmer is top-notch and works as well as any other trimmer (corded or gas) that I've used. Battery is also usable in a variety of other tools.Annoyances: I pretty much keep the trimmer on the lowest power setting which means it could go lower. I keep the blower on its highest power settings and it's still slightly under powered. It does a great job on light debris.Cons: None yet but I'll update this review if I run into problems.Update 6/27/2016:One thing that might be a problem for you with this set, there is no power edger available in the B+D 40v line. There are other brands of 40v tools that DO offer a power edger, so if it's important to you I'd suggest shopping around.

This 40v trimmer has power to spare. The power this thing puts out rivals any gas trimmer out there. The blower is almost useless. Okay for hard surfaces. The trimmer has variable output power from 1-6. I never need to go past 4 even on thick weeds.

Excellent power, good battery life for our 50 x 110 foot lot. One small complaint is that the noise is a little harsh, which it is, but I've heard that it gets better with time. Still, without a cord, it works well and the line feeds automatically so it has my old corded model beat by a mile.

The trimmer works very well and lots of power. The blower not as good. Even on high it really doesn't do the job
