Good switch for PoE devices
Pros:This is a good 8 port switch 802.3af PoE on ports 1-4 and fully gigabit, this will support most security Camera's, IP Phones and Access Points, keep in mind some AC wave 1 and most if not all AC Wave 2 require 802.3at PoE. You also get maximum throughput on all ports at the same time many lower end switches are not capable of that.Like all Netgear switches, a nice solid metal case, and fanless, and easily wall mountable. I like the power jack on the back but some people prefer all the ports and the power jack on one side.LED notifications for PoE power draw and if you are maxing out the devices PoE capability.9k Jumbo frames support great for maxing out your throughputCons:No web managed interface for VLAN's or trunking.Confusing warranty status, Newegg lists a 1 year warranty which Netgear's website lists a 3 year hardware warranty.Other Thoughts: This is a good product if you need a little expansion for security camera's, IP Phones or compliant wireless access points, or if you just want a good switch with PoE capabilities. If you want something with more power or more PoE ports in an 8 port switch look at Netgears GS510TP.

netgear
I've come to rely on netgear products for home use. I simply do not look at other products, I go directly here to look at this brand and what they have and thats what I use. I've tried other brands, I simply don't find the level of quality and the ease of functionality and documentation to be on the same level for similar priced items of similar functionality. I'm not an IT pro nor do I pretend to be...my view on the product at hand.

Plug and play in a powerful switch
(Updated review of GS305PP purchased November 2021)Netgear's line-up of SOHO switches has got something for everybody. I decided to go with the non-managed version because the datasheet MTBF is an astounding 6,710,127 hours. (The managed version is only 853,770 hours MTBF.) Five ports is sufficient but I now need POE+. I went for the 83W version as additional future-proofing.I really like these Netgear switches. Most of the rest of my devices are Cisco (router, access points). But for the switches out on the edges of my network, the Netgear is a very cost effective, quality solution.(Original review of GS308P purchased November 2016)I needed to clean up a fairly cluttered installation with two dedicated PoE injectors and a 4-port non-PoE switch. This Netgear arrived, I took it out of the box, connected up the devices, plugged in the power, and done! A Yealink VoIP desk telephone and a Time Machines network clock came right online using the power and connectivity provided by this Netgear switch, along with some other non-PoE devices.

Randomly shutting down ports
I've been doing layer 2 networking for 20 years and I'm also a software engineer. This switch is randomly shutting down ports typically for 3-4 seconds, occasionally up to around 4.5 seconds. My laptop will show no network connection and the link light goes out when the port it's connected to shuts down. Do NOT buy this switch. It's not reliable. I returned the first device for a replacement. The second device is also exhibiting the same problem. I tested on 4 other switches and the problem doesn't appear. I feel I've given this a fair shake. The switch has some fundamental issues that needs to be addressed by NETGEAR.*** 2021-02-16 UPDATE ***Worked with NETGEAR on this issue. Their support is really good, so thank you NETGEAR!!! I'm still not sure what the underlying problem is but after more troubleshooting I believe I have solid information about what's going on. I have two laptops that have the same problem, one much worse than another. I have a third laptop and a desktop computer that don't have any problems with the switch. There appears to be either a hardware compatibility issue or driver issue with the Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller cards. On the two laptops with the Realtek network adapter that exhibited problems, I tested using a TP-Link USB to Ethernet adapter. That adapter works fine and shows no problems with the switch. At this point I don't plan to change my rating (1 star) but I do recant my earlier statement pointing fingers at NETGEAR. As I stated earlier, it's unknown where the problem exists. At the end of the day my recommendation is to avoid this product until the problem is resolved by either Realtek or NETGEAR or both.

worked right out of the box, thanks netgear
I had purchased a cheap AUOX poe switch last year to run my poe cam's. The auox switch died after a year so i guess you get what you pay for. decided to spend more money on this switch and I really like everything about it. also if you go to netgear's website you can get a 3yr warranty with support. this is the 8port swtih and its much smaller than the 5port auox that i had, fits nice.

Great PoE Switch
Purchased the 8-port model to replace the 5-port model I had in my home office. Just wanted more ethernet ports. Both work great and are super easy to use. I'm using the non-PoE ports to bring network to the room and connect computers and devices, and using the PoE ports to power some Ubiquiti Access Points that I've ceiling mounted throughout the house via network cables ran up through the attic. This device is exactly what I needed, is reliable and relatively cheap.

Best bang for your buck. Works great.
Best bang for your buck. Works great.I am using the PoE functionality.Metal housing gives it a better feel.Only negative I found was mounting. Not worth removing a star on the rating:The mounting points on the underside are great to have but their design doesn't let it be mounted at any angle. For example it won't mount solid if you want the ethernet ports facing to the right when mounted against a wall. It will be loose in that position because the screw head won't "slip" into the slot (giggity) at that angle. It works but is kind of wobbly and not securely mounted. However if the ports are facing left it allows the screw head to slip in and secure the mount. Hope that makes sense.
