Great portable option
I bought this cautiously at first based on on some of the reviews, but I’ve used this combo for 3 seasons now with no issues… rod flexes well but hasn’t broken… real is holding up with no signs of wear… casts well without catching in the real, but maybe not as effortless/far as as some anglers would prefer… I live within 10-30 minutes of 2 separate reservoirs, so I keep this combo in my trunk with a minimal tackle box and a folding chair, so I’m always ready to go.

Perfect fit
Purists and snobs are welcome to laugh, but this is the way to go.This model is one four different models/brands that I purchased to replace four of our rods for our smaller boat to save space and entanglements, and for hiking in to some favorite backcountry streams.I specifically bought the cheapest ($6-20) because losing a $140 rod and reel overboard or snapping an $80 reel in the trees when hiking is just no longer in our budget! Even then those events ruined otherwise perfect outings. Now we are older, wiser, and poorer... but still prefer some of those harder to reach fishin' holes!Guess what..... Our catch rates are unchanged and we have yet to lose a fish because of the [cheap] telescoping rods. I'll not weep should that happen, there are lotsa fish and we've always carried multiple rigs for varied conditions. These telescoping rods make that so much more convenient. Not saying, BTW, that I gave away the other gear. Beach fishing and the big-water boat are still our major outings. Now we can more readily match the equipment to the day's plan.

Definitely not the pole of yesteryears
This brand was an awesome brand back in the day.Reel is total junk, good luck trying to cast this. Replace the line with quality line and a plethora of different line weigh 10’ maybe. With a 30 mph whined at your back…. The pole, wow…. The sound of cracking under the weight of a 3” blue gill is deafening. Avoid this rod and reel.

replace the reel and youre set
the rod itself is great. has consistent flex . the reel it comes with is beyond garbage. refuses to let any line out. put a zebco reel on it and its a perfect set up. i took off one star for the reel

Fishing gear.
The rod and reel combo is convenient but is much smaller than expected. When extended, the sections remain loose so the rod eyes constantly spin and the rod collapses unexpectedly. Not recommended.

Poor quality
Grown up with eagle claw products and thought this combo is oils be a great addition to my fishing gear....Pros.. light weight, packs well. Great for back packing or trial ride to lake/stream. Unfortunately that’s it!Cons... bought 2 combos for wife and I. Reel on 1 pole stopped casting after about 3 uses. Line was so tangled I had to re spool. 2 eyelets bent on one pole. Was able to bend them back but one broke. 2nd pole actually broke about half way up as my wife was bringing in a fish. (8” so not not big). Was able to tape the pole together and continue, but very disappointed in the quality. 2 reel began to do the same as the other after about half day of fishing. Not happy with the quality of these poles! Eagle claw has made great equipment for many years. Too bad they didn’t get this one right. Would not recommend!
