Reading reference books are boring
But it did have practical advice. I just felt the author was discouraging to me as a new wannabe blogger... she made it by mom blogging after all. Take the advice like a grain of salt and am just going to thrust myself out there in the blogosphere.

It's a school book.
It seems to cover everything, but because it is written like a textbook, it is not too exciting to read. And you really do have to go through the chapters chronologically or you won't understand it.

Comprehensive but muddled and already feels dated
I have been blogging for about six months and have read multiple books and websites about blogging and I was interested to see what the dummies guide has to say. I was rather disappointed as I found it quite jumbled and rather dated. On the plus side, this book is very comprehensive and covers a huge number of topics from coming up with a blog idea to making an income from your blog. It does give you a good idea of all the things you need to think about if you want to start blogging. It is also handy as a reference source if you hear a term that baffles you. I remember when I started being utterly baffled by hearing about things such as page views v unique visitors v repeat visitors. This book is actually very handy if you just quickly want to find out the meaning of terms such as these. The fact that this book covers such a wide range of topics is one of its downsides. You often get a couple of pages on a topic that needs to be covered in more depth. The book also looks and feels very jumbled which could overwhelm a beginner. The lack of photos and illustrations does not help. For example, there is a chapter on Wordpress but it misses out a lot and the few illustrations are hard to read. If someone is so new to the subject that they need a book they will be so much better off with a specific guide with plenty of clear illustrations they can follow.I do feel this book is quite dated despite being updated last year. This happens with most tech books but I felt that this book feels very outdated at times. The strangest example is that it lists gawker.com as one of the world's top blogs despite the last post on the site being from 2016 when it closed down. I couldn't see any mention of GDPR. I am not sure whether this is because the book is outdated or because it is written for an American audience. It is a pretty serious omission for a book being sold in the UK as bloggers need to be aware of GDPR from the moment they publish their first post. I also felt some of the advice about which services or networks to use was outdated. I think this would happen with any book and shows that any new blogger really does need to do some up-to-date research online too.If you like the layout of the dummies guides and do just want a big overview of the subject this book might still be worth reading. I would advise beginner bloggers to check out some of the other resources, both online and hardcopy, as I think there are better options out there.

Great Starting Point for Blogging
I’ve had the opportunity to review several of the “for Dummies” books and have found them all to be very good. As a novice blogger myself, I found this one to be particularly useful. As with the others, this comes with a semi-hardback glossy cover and goes through the following topics:1. Getting Started with Blogging2. Setting Up Your Blog3. Fitting In and Feeling Good4. Going Beyond Words5. Marketing and Promoting Your Blog6. Getting Business-y with it7. The Part of Tens8. IndexEverything is well written, easy to follow and understand. There’s a good mix of written and visual content, making this an easy read. The fact that it is broken out into chapters and there’s the index, make it a useful reference tool, as well as something you can read through from start to finish. It really touches all the bases but misses a lot of the nuances – however, this is for “Dummies”. It’s a great starting point though. There also some online resource you can access through the website.Very good value at £12.59.I hope you found this review & photos interesting, informative and useful.

Good beginner resource
Good targetted advice for total beginners looking to start a blog for income and pleasure. It brings together a ton of information you'd have to piece together from various blogger websites and it's worth buying just for the time it saves. By the time you've finished, you'll know what a blog is and how to get one up and running with best practices. Good book if you're new to blogging.
