Metal Compass has Plastic Components
Why I bought this:I bought this compass primarily for it's simplicity and unostentatious design as well as the fact that it was advertised as having a metal construction.Pros:-For the most parts the design and construction seem to be relatively high quality.-The paint seems to be of a good quality and has yet to chip or scratch after being in my pocket for longperiods of time (granted I keep it in a pocket dedicate to my compass so there's little change of it rubbing up against and abrasive surface or jagged edge).-The compass is decent for the price ($16.03 at the time of purchase) and as such I do believe it's a good purchase as a general use compassCons:-While much of the construction was metal the Lens Bracket is clearly a molded plastic (this shouldn't be a problem if you treat a compass as a compass should be treated, but should you accidentally drop it while the lid is open, you may find yourself shopping for a new compass)-The compass works fine; however it did require some adjustments to make it work smoothly:*Adjustment 1: The lid hinge proved rather loose as it would flop open simply by turning the compass upside down and consequently needed to be crimped down to stiffen it up*Adjustment 2: The Bezel Ring was initially very difficult to turn, on account of the bezel lock pressing too tightly on the ring, I was able to fix this by simply getting a knife and slightly bending the lock backward-The knurling on the Bezel Ring does not stick out far enough, in my opinion, and as such, makes it difficult to get a grip on the ring to turn it, especially with the hand that's holding the compass-For the reason mentioned above, this compass really requires two hands to easily operate-The finger hole was on the small side for me, I can fit my thumb in it, but not past my thumbnail without some twisting

Great to have when traveling, or at home. Makes a good little gift.
I keep one in my truck. Good to have when on foot at festivals or fairs if you get turned around at night. Has a small ruler on the side that comes in handy. I have a military lensatic compass which may be a little more precise, but it's a lot heavier. So I prefer this one hands down.

Poor quality compass
I ordered the Stansport primarily for the night features of glowing in the dark direction indicators etc. I expected that the dial could be charged using a flashlight as I had been trained in the Army. The dial would not charge and did not glow at all as best I could tell. The instructions said the "clicking" bezel moved the pointers 3 degrees. This is an important feature in moving at night. That would mean that there were 120 clicks. The Stansport required 130 clicks and thus did not move the bezel 3 degrees as instructed. And the movement resulted in an immediate error of amount 10%. It should also be clear that it is difficult to calculate quickly how many clicks are needed without using a flashlight to adjust the bezel. And that defeats the purpose of the "click" feature anyway. Finally the dial itself has a tendency to stick since the bezel is very close to the floating magnetic dial.Unless the dial is absolutely level the dial sticks. There is almost no tolerance to this effect and would be very difficult to determine at night. Maybe I just got a defective one, but there were too many things related to the design to convince me.

Nice compass
I ordered several of these compasses and they are good quality. I would order them again if I need more.

Not Well Made
I have received this product twice. Each time I put it in use it fell apart and the card with the termometer and chart were lost. If you buy this the first thing you have to do is to glue the bacvk to the front. Not really worth the effort. Just buy a better one.

Purchased Two, both are absolute rubbish;
Amazon should withdraw this product. Tried to return, sent emails to supplier with no response. compass needle sticks, gives inaccurate readings. Shouldn’t be available. Will lead user in wrong direction.
