Penn Special Senator Star Drag Conventional Fishing Reel

A great reel, particularly for this price. Very versatile and with easy maintenance it will last decades. I have many Penn reels and this one has not disappointed me. I also like the classic look of the Senator reels. The reel feels very solid when mounted and is quite smooth when in use. The drag is easy to set and quite sufficient. Try one and pass it down to your kids or grandkids--it'll last that long.

I've been using the Penn 4/0 and 6/0 since 1971 and you can't beat the quality, reliability and long-lasting toughness of the Penn reels, even today.

On last deep sea rockfish trip, my 18 year old grand daughter was using my 38 year old Penn Senator when it died. Found out I could have had it rebuilt, but bought a new one. Has a little better retrieve ratio,clean mounting system, looks like stronger handle and the strength of a Penn. Sure I have some Shimanos, and others but the Penn will always be on each trip. Great reel for the money!

All I can say it has the same great quality reel of one I’ve owned for over 30years. I use these for big bottom fish from ling cod to barn door halibut. The one I bought this past year for this years season is as strong as can be expected. I fish for the big halibut because if handled correctly their meat is exellant. I would not be afraid to take one of these for a trip if a life time.

This reel fits my ElectraMate deep dropping motors. Generally, these are decent reels, but not made quite as well as when they were made in the USA. Deep dropping is tough on a reel and they typically wear out after 3 or 4 years of use.

This reel design hasn't changed since it first came out... the reason is because it just works... and keeps on working. Back the drag off and wash off the salt water each time you use it and it will still be working as good as new when your grandkids pass it on to your great grandkids!Rick Franzen

The reel arrived with the box opened and sealed with tape but no damage, the reel itself had been dropped - the handle was bent and the side plate was cracked.

Ya lo había usado en muchas ocasiones que salia de pesca ya que es muy utilizado por los pescadores deportivos cuando rentaba el servicio y siempre habia querido comprar uno. Con el precio que lo tenia Amazon, me fue irresistible y no lo dudé ni un segundo. Es un gran carrete y en su relación calidad-precio es una verdadera ganga!!!!!Muy funcional porque te permite hacer pesca de fondo, al troleo e incluso surf fishing ya que tiene un tamaño muy accesible para estas opciones de pesca.Todos los pescadores sabemos de la calidad de los productos de Penn, este carrete no es la exepción. Funciona de maravilla por lo que estoy muy contento con la compra.

Brilliant reel for the price. Perfect for wreck fishing or trolling. Not a reel to be used for casting.
