It worked!
Having tried several other methods of trying to get rid of the smell in my front-loading washing machine such as running it on hot with two cups of bicarb of soda or running it on hot with essential oil, this was the one that worked, even though I didn't follow the instructions and accidentally ran a short warm cycle rather than a longer hot one. I am very relieved to be rid of the smell.

3 hours 90c wash and made no difference, still some of it left on the draw. Don't waste your money. Returning the rest

Fresh and Clean
After doing laundry today, as a final step, I used this washer cleaner. It was easy to use. You just dump the contents into the washer and set it for a normal load on hot. I was surprised, but it works great. The washer smells fresh and clean. You only need to use it once a month, which is nice. The box comes with 5 packets.

Shockingly effective
We have a great washer dryer but really needs to be left open for days after use to make sure it's dry as a bone before closing or even leaving washer door ajar. It says to use one a week for 3 weeks then once a month for maintenance but only needed to use for 2 weeks before we could go to maintenance mode. Also great for the mini drum if you have one. Love! Bit expensive for what it is in my opinion but works well to get rid of a rancid water smell well. It's own smell isn't very strong and doesn't longer much after use, but it does smell good.
