Very well made drum stick
I've been using Vic Firth 7A's for a while and I've yet to play a bad pair. The quality of the wood always seems to be very well selected. The only issue I have is that sometimes the stick will split along a grain that seems to travel along the entire stick, though, this occurs rarely. I'm not sure how many of the sticks are close to center cut but they seem to be from a well selected wood source. The overall manufactured consistency for every pair and stick for that matter is great.

The bag was open. There were 5 pairs in there. So someone opened it, took out a single pair, then sent it to me?
