Great book
One of the best war memoirs I've read. Definitely worth the money to get it new. Not only was it a great read (every page was like a self contained anecdote,) but the book itself was large, with easy to read type. Can't recommend it enough.

Brave beyond imagination
A very good and interesting book. The good and the bad of the book were that de Wiart was so completely alien to myself and my middle class life. He lived a very exciting life, was obviously true and brave beyond imagination and I learned a lot about the times and places where he lived.

Fantastic
Adrian Carton de Wiart is already a legend, and this book give a unique insight into his thoughts and ways of going about life. He hides very little about himself, and, at the time of his death, he was probably one of the last of a dying breed man. He was aristocratic, proud, pragmatic, and intelligent. If nothing else, this book lets one understand the man behind the legends. I highly recommend it, though I will admit, his writing style is rather dry sometimes.

Brilliant autobiography!
Fantastic, a humorous and honest account of this real life super human. This man was not just a hero, he was a military legend as well as a proper old fashioned gentleman.Splendid autobiography.

I enjoyed reading the book and found the story very interesting
I enjoyed reading the book and found the story very interesting. The story is of a soldiers career and not about his personal life. He does provide his personal view on events and some details of how he became a soldier He also tells of life events that impact his duty such as his time in Poland between WWI and WWII, but does not mention his wife or children. After reading the book I did some further checking and was surprised to find out about his wife, children, and relatives. He was an exceptional individual and his story is well worth the reading.

Good Book
What a story! It's an autobiography, but a surprising humble and reserved book. Sir de Wiart largely relates his life from a macro perspective with some small stories, insights thrown in along the way. There is no analysis of what he was doing or why, no mention of his family which (I imagine) would lead most readers to assume he was a life-long bachelor (which he was not), and no mention of the numerous medals he was awarded throughout his career. Easy read on a fascinating individual, I would like to see a biography on his career to give me a better perspective on how he fit into the events he mentions and how he managed to become involved in the first place.

Brilliant.
I have been interested in Sir. Adrian Carton de Wiart for quite some time, now, and upon learning that he had an autobiography, I knew I had to read it. After reading the entire thing, I can 100% say that it was everything I was hoping it to be, and much, much more.Sir. Adrian's exploits in life were so outlandish, so incredibly unbelievable, this reads like a fiction book. And as you read the very words that this man wrote, detailing his life, you really get the sense that he was absolutely fearless (and a bit crazy, too. But then again, who isn't? 😛).The things he survived, the people he met, the sheer respect and fame he was given in life, it all makes me wonder one thing: why on Earth does this man not have a film made about him? Indeed, I looked this up, and there is not even one planned to be made about him, which is, quite frankly, a crime. Honestly, there needs to be a film about this man's life, I can't believe there isn't one already. In the book, he speaks about all the injuries he sustained, all the wars he fought in, and all the people he knew, yet he never mentions the multiple accolades and honours he was bestowed, he speaks higher of the acquaintances he'd met throughout his life, and doesn't even speak one word of praise of himself (I'll be honest here, if it were me, I'd be bragging to no end). This book even has a foreword by Winston Churchill himself, and yet, again, there isn't a film about this man. Just...how?I'm giving this book 5 stars because I enjoyed every single bit of it, hearing about Sir. Adrian's life (not to mention, in words from his very mouth) was a joyous experience, and I can't recommend it enough. As my first-ever book on Kindle, this is a tremendously good start. To finish off, I'll say it once more, make a film about this man's life.Thank-you for reading, and goodbye.

Book layout
The book is easy to read, in way of larger than normal print. It has a good illustration on the front cover. and an interesting account. I happened to meet a pilot some years ago who flew Carton De Wiart into China on his last major mission.
