Big Book of WHY Sports (Sports Illustrated Kids Big Books)

HAPPY ABOUT THIS BOOK
This book impressed me. When it arrived I was surprised at the sturdiness of the hard cover book. If your child is like the one I'm buying for then you will also be glad for this feature. Upon opening the book my eyes were met with many large color pictures on pretty much every page. It definitely reads like a magazine which in my opinion is nice for kids who may be daunted at tackling such a relatively big book. There is no need for marking places or cover to cover sequential reading of this book. That made me happy because I can imagine any child being glad to randomly flip the book open and read a few fun and fact filled pages at a time, any time, without getting bogged down. It is well written by the makers of sports illustrated kids magazine. You can tell the people who composed this work know their audience (children) as well as their subject matter (sports). I was unsure if it was what I was looking for when I ordered it but within minutes of opening it I knew I had hit on something good. I know my child will enjoy this and as a matter of fact I feel that we can easily enjoy this book together as a family. That is something well worth the price I paid for this book. I'm happy with this purchase of SPORTS ILLUSTRATED KIDS BIG BOOK OF WHY SPORTS EDITION. I plan on buying more from these authors soon.I would recommend it to anyone with a child who is interested in almost any sport.

A very interesting and educational book on sports. My six-year old grandson could read it fine.
Our grandson was intently looking and trying to read the words in my husband's Sports Illustrated Magazine. I told him I'd buy him a subscription for Sports Illustrated for Kids and he was very happy. Then I realized that the children's version is recommended for children ages 8 and up. He's just 6 and while he's very bright (has any grandmother said anything else about their grandson?), I didn't want to him to receive a monthly magazine above his reading level. Thus I looked around and found this book and gave it to him instead. My husband read the whole book and said it was great! I explained why I didn't get my grandson his own subscription and promised I'd buy it for him his subscription on his eighth birthday. I know he was disappointed but I think he understood. And now, because I only had time to glance through the book, one of them has to explain to me why it's called a hat-trick!

Nice book!
I bought this as a Christmas gift along with the football "Big Book of Who" for a 10 year old in my family (who really enjoys sports). He actually took time out from opening more presents to start reading both books and quizzing us on what he was reading - I would say they were a hit! They were packaged well and arrived in perfect condition - no scratched up covers or bent corners. The information is put together in a way that young kids can read, comprehend, and enjoy it. I thought the prices were reasonable - maybe a bit high - but for the enjoyment he was getting out of these books - I would say it was money well spent!

For the kid who already has it all…..
This is a great gift for the kid who already has everything! Our nephew (age 8) is a stinker for getting gifts, every gift, from PlayStation to iPads to four wheelers….so when Christmas came around, we were stumped for his present. Found this book and he LOVED it! He isn't much for reading, but he loves to brag about his new facts that he read in his new book. Reports of him taking it to school and showing his friends who asked their parents for a book just like it….. KILLED IT THIS CHRISTMAS WITH THE GIFT! Yahoo!

Huge Hit for Birthday Present
My 7-year old son is a strong reader and has recently become obsessed with sports of all types. I got him this for his birthday and he absolutely loves it, has read it cover to cover and has shared many sports facts with my husband and I. It does cover all kinds of sports, not only the major professional sports, and many of the facts are quirky - why certain rules are what they are, or unique traditions associated with different teams. If you have a child who loves sports and sports trivia, this will be a hit!

Great pre-teen book
Got this for my 11 year old nephew who likes sports last Christmas. He opened it and started reading right then. He told me he finished it and enjoyed it. Before I wrapped it up, I flipped through the pages and it had great quality paper with lots of colors and pictures on the pages.
