Very good for beginngers
My daughter is in this huge science kick and I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg on a microscope. This is awesome, it connects to your pc and they can see it directly on there! Came with slides pre-made and also some blank. Super cool and great value.

Well Worth Price Paid
This is not a serious microscope, but you already know that from the price. It is however very workable, though you'll need a bit of patience -- while it's not going to fall apart it clearly skimps on build quality, so you have to readjust focus & recenter the slide very frequently. Change the objective lens, or simply change the focus, and you'll need to recenter the slide, which you have to do carefully, because the slightest weight on the slide table or stage throws it out of focus. Focusing itself requires a light touch due to the gearing used. The USB camera uses an uncommon cable, and the URL given in the manual to download the software is incorrect - you need to go here: amscope.com/pages/software-downloads . Their software isn't needed with Windows 11 however -- the built-in Camera app works just fine. Note that the regular eyepiece is a magnifying lens, so the camera will not achieve the same magnification. It may be necessary though -- using the regular eyepiece with the apparently uncoated optics was like shining a light into my eye, and I saw so many transparent floaters it made trying to see the material on the slide difficult. There was something [dust?] on the camera showing as a small circle slightly off center in the picture -- a cotton swab took care of that. They did go overboard tightening the 3 screws holding the black base cover in place, so it took quite a bit of force to remove them to install the batteries. It would have been very easy to strip the screw heads so please be careful. The plastic blank slides and slide covers were scratched out of the box, and those scratches refract the light from the LED.

For toy quality: EXCELLENT, for school quality: meh
I compared this microscope with the Amscope M150C, which I also own. The photos include both microscopes side by side for reference (this microscope is the smaller of the two). For a gift, or a toy, this is an incredible microscope, and the kit includes so much. For a toy, the microscope is legitimately great quality. It will also work for homeschool purposes, but it is not as good in quality as the school quality M150C. Images through the scope are not as clear, especially at higher magnification. If this purchase is school related, I’d choose a better model. Images were still good, but not as large or clear, in my opinion. If it is for fun, collecting samples, exploring things under the microscope, or any science loving kid as a gift, you cannot go wrong.

Excellent Kid's Microscope - Great Gift Idea
Purchased for my niece (8 y/o) and nephew (6 y/o) and they loved it. Significantly higher quality and material than other kid's microscopes I've bought in the past. The software is easy to use and the kids enjoy taking screenshots to print out and draw on.Added features and quality are definitely worth the price - I highly recommend!!

Best customer service
My twin 11 year old grandsons were so excited to receive their AmScope M-40 microscopes for their birthday. However, one of the cases arrived with a severely corroded battery pack and white residue was all over the case and the microscope. I contacted AmScope customer service and reported the issue. After sending photos of the batteries and case, it took the agent no more than a half hour to notify me that a new microscope was being sent. I couldn’t believe how fast and easy it was. The best customer service ever!

I wanted to see what a camera and microscope for this price would do.
It has a LOT of pieces, and buried in there is a USB camera that slides into the microscope barrel and connects to the computer. You need some software in the computer to see that. Pretty sure they did not provide any guidance for that. But I did not have much time and did not look deeply. For the price you get more than other "non camera" microscopes. I think the plastic sample slides are not well made with too much glue and stuff. I could not tell what was something to look at and what was glue. But if a young or old person has always wanted to play with microscopes, these are all the pieces in the classic use of "microscopes". Me, I would rather have "a camera with a microscope lens" than a "classic desktop microscope that looks like the big microscopes in movies and books" that has a camera added. When I was 7 years old, I got my first microscope. It was better made than this one and cost much less. But over the many decades in between I still want to point a "microscope/telescope/recorder/algorithm runner" at something, the at my leisure, go over the images, enhance them, stack them, save them in lossless movies. I grew up before they landed on the Moon and lived near enough to watch the launches and be part of that. But it was always "big science" and "those experts over there doing things that you would never be able to be involved with". If you are buying a gift for someone and have patience to not expect more from this set than it is, try it. Spend time with it. But there is no "online community for the product". No "somewhere to talk with others about this one or similar ones", without spending horrendous time to find things and try to connect. Isn't the "microscope" a hope? Something that might be useful in the future? Some kind of path and direction? There I go again, being philosophical about products, things, tools, ideas and methods. I think you should have a purpose for this microscope before you buy it. You need a passion and goal to make it worthwhile, no matter the actual cost in dollars and time. LOL!

It’s fun to use.
This works really well when you look into it. It’s not as good when using the usb camera to view on screen. We tried it at school on my new line board and it worked well, but the image could use more light. It’s great for the price and definitely usable in the classroom.
