Not sure if I like it really or not
This knife seems to be well made but for the life of me I can't get it to take a decent edge. I am no stranger to sharpening knives and for some reason this blade can only get about halfway sharp. It also wants to cut to the left or right when applying downward force. As in it cuts on a slant instead of directly down. Not sure if I like it really or not.

This knife is about the steel: 14c28n
This is one awesome knife, and it's because of the steel. The fit and finish is only middling, but the blade is 14c28n (and Ontario seems to have done the heat treatment right too.) This is a purpose made knife steel by the Swedish foundry Sandvik. It is about as good as non-powdered steel gets. 14c28n is in the same class as the VG-10 steel used in higher end Japanese knives like those from Shun.I've reground the edge on water stones. It's at about 12 degrees per side now. It slices through food stuff effortlessly; it's almost sharp enough to shave with. And back to that steel, the knife's kept that edge under fairly heavy use.

It's a machete. Terrible design
The shape of the blade is wrong for a santoku knife. The curve of the blade is wrong for a santoku knife, and it's VERY thick behind the edge so will wedge when cutting the things that santoku knives are supposed to cut.I know that Ontario knows how to make knives, but their actual machete, the "Ontario Knives Field Knife", is a FAR better kitchen knife than this chunky beast, and it's half the price. (It's a slicer rather than a santoku, but at least it's earned a spot in my kitchen)This "santoku" is a decent slab o' 14C28N steel, but it's in the wrong shape. Yes, you could re-grind the metal into the proper shape for a santoku knife, but why??? Just buy a proper santoku knife in the first place. There's many to choose from any you'd probably be happier with almost any of them than this, unless you actually want to spend some time grinding metal. The handle isn't very good either.

Very satisfied
Great knife for $30, wasn’t expecting much based on other reviews but the knife is beautiful. The grind is tapered well and it was sharp enough out of the box buts it’s convex not hollow. Great full tang and balance, overall great value.
