What every Kinks should own.

This is a supreme book that tells you everything you wanted to know about the Kinks' career.It is very similiar in style to Mark Lewishohn's tome on the Beatles. i.e. a day by day account of the Kinks' concerts and recordings.Doug had been studying the Kinks for forty years now and it shows. What he doesn't know about the Kinks could be written on the back of a postage stamp and there would still be room to write the Koran on it.I particularly enjoyed reading about the many television appearances of the Kinks. Many are sadly wiped but that's another story.There are some great photographs as well, many unpublished.Any criticisms? Well I have noticed some typos, but no doubt the second edition will eliminate those.I would have like a few colour photos in the middle, but costs no doubt prevented that.A wonderful piece of work! Buy it!

An essential guide to any fans of The Kinks and UK 60s pop in general.

Still the best book for day to day info on the Kinks career, although some details are "best guess" and not factual.

Impressive compilation of all kinds of activities and events in the long career of the Kinks.

I'm a long-time, hard-core Kinks fan and have been since the mid-Sixties. I've seen a lot of concerts and have read virtually every article on them that has come within reach. I've never seen anything like this, though. A non-fan might consider this the work of a stalker or OC chronicler. I enjoyed it; although reading it page-by-page one gets the vague impression that, halfway through the book or so, even the author tires of the exhaustive coverage of this remarkable band. Daily or weekly paragraphs gradually distill down to a line or two (with the occasional momentous event covered in detail) halfway through the 1980s. Nevertheless, it answers a LOT of questions and puts events in their proper place and perspective. Worth buying.

キンクスの６０年代から９０年代までのライブ、レコーディング記録を時系列に並べ、当時の評論などを盛り込んだキンクスマニアにとってはほぼ決定版と言える歴史本です。記録に徹しているため客観的な視点のみで筆者の主観がほとんど入っていないのもいいところです。ただマニアにとってはもっと詳細な情報が欲しいのでは。例えば日本来日公演も代表的な公演の演奏曲しか載っていない（当時のミュージックマガジンは全日程・全曲の掲載あり）、公演の入場者数記載はあっても興行成績がない（THE　WHOの歴史本には載っている！）など。ページの制約もあるから無理かな？　でも概ね楽しめました。

Very informative kinks book ever! I personally know Doug Hinman. It's amazing on how he got the info from the kinks. Ray, back in the day was very reserved about his work. That tells me that Doug was in very close contact with him. Doug told me that he owned all of the kinks vinyl from all over the world. I would recommend this book to any die hard Kinks fan! 5 Stars!

Ce livre est une véritable mine d'or pour tous les fans de ce merveilleux groupe trop sous-estimés!Absolument tout, des débuts jusqu'a 1996 date du dernier concert des frères Davies, est répertorié avec une précision et un travail hors du commun(dans la meme veine que l'excellent livre sur les Beatles "Complete Chronicle".C'est bel et bien Dave Davies et lui seul qui joue le fabuleux solo de You really got me, la femme de Ray Davies qui assurent la plupart des Backing Vocals sur les premiers morceaux......
