I don't know that "Airtight" applies
Mine came in late Nov with a chipped opening. It did not appear to have been damaged in transit, and the chip didn't diminish the function of the jar any either - just a note.As for Airtight - It's not like the jar uses a tight seal to close - it's actually quite easy to remove and takes next to no effort. That scenario only exists when the seal isn't tight.It still works, it just came in slightly damaged and not air tight. It'll still keep mice and most bugs out of your rice and beans as depicted on the image.

Good, airtight food storage
I'm using it for flour. I hand-washed instead of using the dishwasher--not sure it would survive getting knocked around in the dishwasher. However, it looks great, and the seal is tight on the lid.
