Definitely recommend!
I took this bag with me on my last trip abroad. After a previous lengthy trip during which a suitcase I purchased became torn and frayed, I decided to splurge for something that I hoped would prove more lasting. When it arrived it looked like it might be too big to fit as a carry-on bag, but that's not the case. It's roomy enough to hold all the essentials, but compact enough to still be a carry-on bag.I'm happy to say that after 8 weeks of (sometimes rough) handling through airports, buses, taxis, trains and hostels across 3 continents, I noticed no rips or tears, the straps and zippers remain intact, and a quick wash in the machine left it looking good as new! The branding is low-key, so I wasn't worried about drawing attention to myself the way I would have if I'd been carrying Columbia gear or something. The versatility was a huge plus. It's carry-on size so you can avoid checked baggage fees if you need to, it can function as a duffle bag or backpack (I prefer backpack), and it's expandable/shrinkable to suit your needs. External straps allow you to compress your bag if it's a little full - best done by sitting on top of the bag (assuming you don't have anything fragile in there) and pulling up on each strap. Trust me, they can handle the job. There are two downsides, and they might be minor:1) is a lack of internal storage. Apart from the two external compartments (which each comfortably fit a small book and other items) It's just one big zippered area inside, so to keep gravity from re-organizing your things I recommend using small luggage organizers.2) is it doesn't come with a daypack, which would have been a huge plus for short trips away from the hostel. I just brought a secondary, small backpack for that instead.

To bad they discontinued this item
I am a sucker for travel bags of all sizes, ask my family, but this one just might be my favorite of all time. Small enough to be a carry on but large enough for a weeks full of clothing. Has the flexibility for carrying as a backpack (and the backpack straps hide away when not in use) or hand carry. It also expands about 2 inches around the bottom if needed. Well built straps too. Only down side is the pockets are a little small on top---but would work well for smaller items when going through a TSA line. Although the Load Hauler is not made anymore Eagle Creek still makes a similar model. This is my first Eagle Creek purchase and I am impressed----will buy more of their products.

Load Hauler for the Win
After countless hours of researching all kinds of brands and designs, I ordered the Load Hauler and the Eagle Creek Converge bag for my husband to choose from. Though the Converge is an excellent weekender for the businessman, it didn't fit my husband's needs. However, he was THRILLED with the Load Hauler. Functional, durable, smartly designed and with an attractively rugged appearance, the Load Hauler was the perfect bag to hit the road on adventures or travel through the airport on a casual business trip. Pairing this bag and the ebags pack-it system, my husband packed a week's worth of a variety of clothes (from work out to business casual) in the Load Hauler. Though it fits as a carry-on, my husband checked the bag and it came through a little dirtier but still intact. My husband loved this bag so much he ordered me the blue one!The cinch straps were a big deciding factor on this bag for us as many other versions of weekend bags don't provide them. When we don't want to pack to capacity, we can cinch down the extra space and not have to deal with a floppy/bulky half-filled bag. We also prefer a NON-rolling duffel so loved that this bag doesn't use up space or weight on wheels. All in all, it fits our needs perfectly.

Very good - just shy of great.
Really like this bag - particularly the light weight. The bag opens completely like a suitcase, and is perfect for packing cubes. Although I'd prefer the backpack straps secured at the very top of the bag which would improve the suspension, so far it feels pretty good as a backpack. The two pockets are ok, but seems they would have been better splitting the entire top of the bag - essentially doubling the size of the two pockets. There is, of course, the duffle handle, but IMHO that would have not only freed up more space for the two external pockets, but provided a way to carry as a suitcase. Using the duffle handle means continual banging on the leg as you walk - uncomfortable. The backpack straps, though, are comfortable and tuck away easily - and there is plenty of space for the shoulder strap as well. The hardware is adequate, but will only know how durable the zippers and cinch connectors once I put more mileage on the bag. Being soft sided, it's easy to fit in the overhead bins or oven under a seat. Overall a pretty good bag. Could have been a 5 with a couple of engineering changes. Still, if weight is a concern, this bag rocks!

Great for air travel.
I recently used this to fly from Washington state to North Carolina. It was the perfect dimension's for Delta's carry-on policy. Holds a lot more than it looks like I thought it would. It's well made and comes with detiled care instructions. Very clever design. The hideable backpack straps are an extremely useful feature and very intelligent design aspect. As a bonus I love the color.

Perfect bag
Love this bag. U-shaped zipper makes loading and unloading so much easier than a typical duffle. Can use it as a backpack or shoulder carry. The expandable allows so much additional space. My son started using it to carry all of his lacrosse equipment...chest protector, helmet, gloves, armguards, shoes...everything but the stick for which he has a separate athletico bag. It is lightweight and easy to carry and is holding up great. I bought another for myself so he can keep it.

Great bag for air travel.
Very versatile. If you don't expand it then it will fit anywhere in a plane. I was traveling on jumbo jets and smaller city hoppers. It went in the overheads and squashed under the seats. Don't put shoes in the shoe pocket if you plan to carry it as a backpack. When I had to cross a huge airport to reach a connection it did get pretty heavy. Would have liked wheels at that point. Held up well even when I sent it on one leg as checked baggage. Truly holds a lot with no wasted space.

The most versatile and useful bag I've ever bought
I'm a 5'2" tall woman who often travels alone on 3-5 day trips or longer. I've been on the hunt for a carry-on/luggage that would work for me for different situations - weekend trips, work trips, hiking and camping trips, longer vacations in planes, trains, and automobiles. I've tried everything else from weekender bags, oversized backpacks, soft and hard case carry-on's and other luggage pieces. They were either too bulky, too hard to fit in a car trunk or overhead bin, or not spacious enough to hold any items of significance for the amount of time I would be away. This Eagle Creek luggage did the trick! It is well designed and very well constructed. On my recent 9-day trip to Spain, I was leaving -20 degree weather in Canada and needed to pack for weather that would vary from 2-5 degrees Celsius to 20 degrees Celsius. I managed to fit 3 pairs of pants, 5 tops, 4 dresses, three pairs of shoes, undergarments, sports clothes, beach and sleep wear in the open compartment, and dry and liquid toiletries separated in each of the outer pockets, making it easy to pass through security screenings with the bag. With the expandable zipper and the clips on each end of the bag to help compress or expand the bag at will, I was able to bring the fully stuffed bag as a carry-on on the plane. I flew Air France, KLM, and Transavia without having to check the bag. Since the bag only weighs 1lb, it also allowed me to fit more items in without going over the max carry-on weight. The ability to tuck away the should strap and back pack straps in the back pocket of the bag is a great feature and I would often find myself transitioning from carrying the bag as a 'duffel' with the top handle to a backpack or sling bag style to easily maneuver through crowds at the airport or when moving from one form of transport to another.Since my travel partner and I were trying to save money on this trip, we did a lot of walking with our luggage from one spot to the next to get to our final destinations. She complained that her bag was giving her shoulder, back and hip pain. My Eagle Creek bag weighed about 35-40 lbs (15kg) when full. thanks to the padded shoulder straps and adjustable straps, I was able to walk around through city streets and metro with the bag for 30-40 minutes without experiencing any discomfort. I only wish I was able to shorten the should straps another 1-2 inches, since I felt that the bag sat a bit low on my body when fully stuffed.Tip for anyone who plans to purchase this bag and stuff it to the max: I would recommend investing in packing cubes. The main compartment is one big open space without inside pockets to store loose items or separate your clothes into groups. I roll up my clothing to save space when packing. If I had the packing cubes, I would have been able to pack similar items into each cube to make it easy to access the items I needed when I needed them, instead of rummaging through the bag to find what I needed, and disturbing the contents in the process.I'm looking forward to using the bag again when I go on a 4-day ski trip in February. I'm sure it will stand up to anything I put it through. Highly recommended!

Good quality
I haven’t used it yet but it is well made. I have been using one of their products for 30 years or more and it looks like new. I have used it a lot so I am not surprised this one has been made well.
