Great deck of higher quality than I expected
I was in search of a set of Hanafuda cards for my son for Christmas, because he loves to play, but I'm protective of my Nintendo Napoleon deck, because I had a guy in Japan buy them for me, as it's nearly impossible to find them to purchase in the U.S. I came across these, and figured the price was very reasonable, and they're Mario, so they'd be good for a six year old.I was very surprised to see them come in very nice packing with card quality that nearly matches my Napoleon deck. The artwork is great, and the cards give a satisfying snap when you put them down, and the Donkey Kong suit was a nice touch.Highly recommend this set of you have kids, want a second Hanafuda deck with some style, or are a collector.

This is a perfect gift for someone who love Nintendo or Japanese culture
These card are top quality, they are very durable, even if you don't know how to play with hanafuda, they are worth it for the artistic value alone, and learning a games where the cards are only illustrations is very fun

Cute, tiny playing cards (hanafuda)
These are adorable! Even if you don't know how to play hanafuda, these are pretty cool - and you can always learn! Pay attention to the product dimensions; these cards are very small. Do not expect them to be the size of standard U.S. playing cards, as they are not designed to be that large. Great gift for the Nintendo/Mario franchise lover in your life.

Super cool!
Nintendo’s history making cards is cool, but combining the past with today’s game characters is awesome! These cards are really cool!

Themed hanafuda cards are a departure from tradition
I bought these because I was in the market for my first hanafuda deck, and was tickled to see that Nintendo had made a deck of their highly regarded cards featuring Mario in the iconic uniform of the Napoleon portrait that usually graces the box of their highest-quality cards. In case you are unaware, Nintendo has been manufacturing hanafuda cards since long before they got into the video game business, and I was excited to get my hands on a piece that celebrated that history.I should have paid a little more attention to the item description, though, because as someone who is only just getting into playing hanafuda games, these cards steepen the learning curve substantially -- every single card features a different Mario character! If you're unfamiliar with hanafuda cards, learning the common elements that tie a suit of cards together is already challenging, and the added detail of the Mario characters creates considerable confusion, at least for me!I ended up buying a cheaper deck of Nintendo's cards to practice with, but to be clear, this error is entirely on me -- these special edition Mario cards are beautiful and heartwarming, and they seem to be made to a high degree of quality (although none of the traditionally manufactured hanafuda cards I've seen seem particularly resistant to damage). In the end, my recommendation is that if you are looking for a fun and historically relevant gift for a Mario fan, or if you're a long-standing fan of hanafuda looking for a deck with some flair, these cards are a great choice. If you're just looking to play some hanafuda games, a cheaper deck without the character art might be more your speed.

Cute gift for my husband
My husband has gotten incredibly into hanafuda on his Nintendo Switch and has been eyeing these up for a few weeks. They are small and thick cards, thicker than cardstock, and stored in a nice plastic case. He was extremely excited about this gift and about the cute Mario characters on them.

Gorgeous and high-quality
The artwork is fantastic, and the cards feel like quality between the fingers. It makes me feel like I'm holding thin strips of hardened leather. A lovely melding of Nintendo's past and present!
