Hogue 01376 Colt 1911 Government Mainspring Housing, Aluminum Checkered Arched Brushed Gloss Black Anodized

After a half dozen 1911's, I finally decided to try an arched MSH. The arched housing came in with the M1911A1 after WWI. Apparently it was meant to improve accuracy__the flat housing tending to cause low shots. For whatever reason, the 1911 gurus after WWII all came down against the arched housing, and gun makers responded accordingly. So, despite incorporating every other A1 improvement, it is difficult to find a new 1911 shipped with an arched housing. It is a semi-expensive upgrade, but I encourage anyone shooting with a flat MSH to give it a try. I was never happy with the straight grip angle of my 1911's, and I was never as accurate with 1911's as with other semi-autos. This arched MSH has changed that. I now shoot straighter and more comfortably. This is the housing only; you will need the mainspring, its two plungers, and the retaining pin from your flat MSH (or replacements from Wilson Combat or some such supplier). Replacing the spring on your own requires a vise, but that is not needed if you have a buddy to put in the retaining pin (wear safety glasses!). This is somewhat shiny; there is a matte black version. Finish is excellent.

To be honest i don't know what i was expecting from buying this,it's made of aluminum not steel, it looks and feels cheap in spite of the cost, and it gives me no support for my hand. but who knows maybe it will grow on me

I replaced the flat plastic MSH that came on my Kimber CDP II Pro with this arched aluminum MSH. It now has the great feel and pointability that I have found in 1911s since I first started shooting them in 1958. It only increased the total weight by 1/2 ounce.
