Power the fun stuff or cover an emergency with a Generac GP Series portable generator. Generac's model 5939, GP5500 is ideal for tailgating, camping, power tool use, and emergency home backup power. It has a low-tone muffler for quieter operation and an hour meter that tracks usage between maintenance sessions. The low oil shutdown feature detects low oil levels and if found, shuts down the engine to prevent any damage. The unique fold down hands and never flat wheels allow for extreme portability, and the heavy duty hardened steel tube cradle gives the generator extra strength and durability. The new covered circuit breaker protected outlets provide added protection from the environment and rugged working conditions. Affordable reliability and features not usually found on basic portable models makes these units a favorite for home use, camping, job sites or outdoor events. Model 5939 is not CARB (can not ship to state of California) or CSA compliant.

works well but noisy
I have about 80 hours run time on it now and it does the job. What I like: Steel fuel tank and cap (my old one was plastic and it leaked) Fuel gauge in tank Hour meter (how else would I know when to change the oil?)What I do not like: Heavy to move (the wheels could have been moved a short distance toward the center to hold more weight) Noisy (and irritating) Starting pull is harder than needed - no compression reliefI changed the oil at the 25 hour mark and used full synthetic oil. I noticed a sharp decrease in fuel usage afterwards. Also, the sound has gotten less irritating as the generator and motor break in (but still noisy).

Good clean power
Arrives almost ready to run right out of the box. Add oil and gas and go.Has enough power output to cover the necessities (furnaces, water heater, microwave, therapeutic massage chair, disco lights, hot plate, etc.).When I first started it up, it was a little noisy at idle, which caused my neighbor to complain a bit. He's one of those guys that bitches about EVERYTHING, like I can control where my dog goes to the bathroom, or where a bottle rocket is going to land, or just what 20 Diet Cokes and a case of Mentos will produce... Anyway, he was complaining about the noise, but when the generator was fully loaded it was loud enough that I couldn't hear him anymore, so that was kind of a good thing.I also like the included wheel kit and handle, this makes it really portable. My wife can easily move it into place and start it, which is ideal for those times we lose power at 2AM in the winter, I don't have to be the one getting out of bed to setup the generator every time.I'd rate this unit 5 stars, but that just seems kind of excessive, so I gave it 4 because I'm in one of those moods today.

Great work generator
I bought this generator to power a build I was doing at a remote site that didn't have power. Typically ran equipment (saw, compressor, etc) battery charger, fan, and plug in cooler. I've used it in a pinch when the power went. This unit is fairly loud but it works. I've had over 100 hours on it and it is running fine. It is stored inside a shed with ethanol free gas and the gas line closed. It starts on the first pull with the choke on. Happy with my purchase. I would hope that they would include better nuts and bolts as the vibration has rattled many of them out.

Pleased with my purchase...
...so far, so good. I was very glad that I ordered this generator from Amazon. However, I wasn't very thrilled with the fact that if I had bought the same one from Lowe's, it would have included a 25' 10/3 generator cord. Although i realized later that the numbers ($) worked out: Lowe's was selling theirs for $50 more and then charged $75 for delivery. While on Amazon I could purchase a comparable cord for $70 and the shipping for both the generator and the cord was free (and tax-free too). All in all, I've only had an opportunity to test out the generator once and I've had a chance to use it for a actual outage for about 10 minutes. By the time I rolled the generator out from the garage, hooked up the cords and plugged in my appliances, the power company turned everything back on. So I was happy that if I had actually needed it for an extended period of time, I would have been GOOD TO GO. ;-)

Generac is one of the top portable generators on the market this model is no exception. I followed the easy set up putting on the wheel kit adding the oil and the gasRead the safety procedures third pull it fired up. I hooked it up and was able to run a refrigerator/ freezer, lights in several rooms, TVs, portable air conditioner and still had spare capacity. When I bought mine on Amazon there were $619 on August 31 within a few days due to hurricane Irma and greedy sellers they jacked these up an additional $350-$400 in some cases. As of this week view the current price is still $949 which is ridiculous. FYI Sam's Club have pallets of them $588.This is the perfect generator for emergencies just be wise when you shop for one.

Generac 5939 GP5500 6,875 Watt 389cc OHV Portable Gas Powered Generator
I was a little apprehensive about purchasing this generator with all the negative reviews. I ignored my doubts and bought it, and I have no regrets. The generator fired up on the first pull without a hitch. I didn't experience any fuel tank leakage that other reviewers discribed.I filled it with a little over a gallon of ethanol free gasoline, because I read somewhere that the ethanol with eat away at the plastic/rubber components if left in the lines for awhile. I added Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer to the gasoline before filling. I run the generator 30 minutes every 3 months and turn off the fuel line and let it run dry. Don't fill up the tank and let the generator sit because even with Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer the fuel will go bad after awhile.4 stars because the generator is a little noisy, but for the price it was expected.

So far its fine, but louder than expected.
I bought this as an emergency backup generator and for occasional use in areas where power is not readily accessible. Out of the box, I had no issues. The little assembly required is not bad, but it is pretty heavy. Shipping was great. The delivery people were very helpful. Included documentation is adequate, so if you read it, then you will know you have to put oil in it before using it. I'm still early in the break in period (1st 30 hours) and have only used it to drive about 1200 watts of stuff. Again, no issues.Pros:Works as expected.Shipping was great.Repair centers in my area.Cons:Much louder than I expected. Louder than my riding mower. Ear protection is needed if you spend much time within 20 feet.

Very good. Just need better design for easier maintenance
It does it's job. Hope they design it for an easier fuel drainage like a 3 way stopcock where an extra fuel line can be attached for external drainage.
