A truly inspirational story from an amazing woman
This is such an inspirational read of true love conquering bullying, foreign bureaucracy and fear. Lizbeth just does not give up. As a mother I would like to think that I could be as strong as she was. I could not put this book down. It will bring tears to your eyes but also fire in your belly. Incredibly moving and brave.

A thrilling memoir
This book reads more like a thriller than a memoir, and I had to keep reminding myself that the kidnapping really did happen to two little girls, and that the rescue was executed by a brave and determined mother. The author tells a gripping tale, sharing her darkest fears and deadliest thoughts.

the 34 US reviews of this book are all five-star assessments so I'm puzzled about the UK reader who called this book boring
I was interested to see that on the US amazon site, the 34 reviews of this book are all glowing five-star assessments so I'm puzzled about the UK reader who said this book was boring. How can such a terrible tale be considered boring? For a start can can this description do anything but make you smile? "Detective Rose is easily a size 16 stuffed into a 12, her pants so tight I can count the change in her pocket."This is a powerful tale but it is inspiring too as it is also about being strong and it is about healing and resolution. When life is bad you can accept the role of victim or ignite a spark and fight back. Meredith chose to fight and her brave struggle yielded rich rewards. This is the inspiring tale of how a quietly powerful woman overcame bullying, attempted murder, abduction, arrest and being failed by the authorities in two continents to free her daughters.

Good Read!
I really enjoyed this book, I wasn't sure how it would be as it was written by the young mother who traveled the globe to save her daughters. And as they are not true established "authors", sometimes itisn't captivating reading. However this one was very well written and it captivated me almost from the beginning of the book. Very well done!

A deeply personal and moving story
Even before her children’s abduction in 1994, Lizbeth Meredith was an authority on domestic abuse. A survivor herself, she was working at a shelter for battered women when her ex-husband fled to Greece with their daughters, ages six and four.Instances of parental kidnapping are, unfortunately, commonplace. What makes Pieces of Me special is the author’s unflinching account of her own harrowing childhood. In Meredith’s mind, the kidnapping and her family history are intertwined, making for a deeply personal and moving story.Childhood prepared Meredith for her ordeal. Kidnapped from a father who never bothered to look for her, abused by a mother with multiple husbands, “[a]ll I knew as a youngster was that my mother had a house full of mismatched children.” She remembers her mother slapping and disparaging her as early as age eight. Thus, when her own daughters vanished, she was motivated.Frustratingly, Meredith hardly knows who to trust as she bounces from one bureaucracy to another in an effort to recover her daughters. Betrayed by police, exploited by her own private detective, living in poverty and sinking deeper into debt, she depends on the kindness of coworkers, lawyers, volunteers and sympathetic foreigners to support her quest.Meredith’s determination to make a better life for herself and her kids is remarkable. Even as the search for her girls goes on, she looks to the future, working as a women’s counselor and pursing an academic degree. One striking feature of this memoir is how well-written it is. Though this is apparently her narrative debut, Meredith skillfully blends flashbacks from her past into the present crisis. The result is a powerful bond between author and reader. This is a rare instance in which I give five stars to a book despite several instances of offensive language. Pieces of Me is an inspirational story that reminds us that in a cold world, there are warm-hearted people willing to risk everything for a happy ending.

A tale of a mother fighting for the return of her children.
A difficult memoir for the author to have written as it reflects a miserable childhood and adolesence, a mistaken choice in marriage and the loss off her two children when their father kidnaps them. There follows the author's determination to recover her girls despite her lack of resources. International lawa, bureaucracy, police negligence, and mean-spirited neighbours conspire against her but she is resilient and determined. The psychological effects on herself and the girls are recognised. Life can be very hard but she makes the right choice for them.

Wow, these are 3 amazingly strong women.
This was a story that will get you going. From being sad, mad, over joyed and terrified but in the end it came down to the power and unwavering love of a mother.
