Ao ler a sinopse se tem a impressão de que o caso de assassinato em julgamento terá alguma relevância na trama. Ledo engano, não passa de pano de fundo ocupando 10% da narrativa, se tanto. Os outros 90% estão con entrados nas angústias existenciais da personagem principal, uma advogada alcoolatra, que trai o marido com um colega de trabalho, e vive remoendo a culpa de trair o marido e a filha. A metade inicial do livro podia ser resumida em três capítulos, mas somos arrastados por infindáveis páginas em que a estória em nada evolui. As reviravoltas acontecem no último quinto do livro, tarde demais para o leitor que já está exausto pela enfadonha leitura.

What a great read. Very well written and the story keeps you engrossed from start to end, with an unexpected twist. Highly recommend. I read this for a book club - great choice.

This was such a satisfying read from beginning to end. The characters are not what they appear at the beginning, and the journey of the protagonist, Alison, is suspenseful every step of the way.

I like how realistic the characters are. How flawed each one is. There are twists and turns right to the very last page. I recommend 100%
