Time UnTime, A Review for the Blog Bodice Rippers, Femme Fatales and Fantasy
Time UnTime is the latest book in Sherrilyn Kenyon's world of the Dark Hunters (for those of you who didn't know) As with all Kenyon books this one was much anticipated and once again Sherrie doesn't fail us. Time UnTime had a seriously different feel to it. It wasn't that quirky, crazy, silly dialog that Sherrie is famous for. It didn't have those sensual scenes that many of us blush over (hello, Talon on the bar).. It even lacks Daimons.. and yet it is a wonderful addition to the Dark Hunters.I have not read a single book of Sherrie's that I didn't love.. I have laughed at the insanity, wondered who the Alexion was going to be, cried when Nicky, well became "more". I have cringed at Sherrie's ability to describe a tortured past but never before has a Kenyon story entered my dreams and remind me of what was.. and what wasn't.Ren (short for Renegade which btw, had my first daughter have been a boy his name would have been Renegade.. so for that alone I had to love him) was the son of a Greek Goddess and a Mayan Chieftain.. and nursed by a demon. Talk about family issues.. Resented by his father he is demeaned and debased by family and tribe. Leaving him with absolutely no self worth and a desperate need for love. Not knowing what real love was he fell for a woman who had an ulterior motive and lead him down the path that almost destroyed the world. After finding redemption he was betrayed by his brother yet again and killed. Artemis finds him and offers him her Dark Hunter Deal.. an unusual event for someone from South America and the Mayan Pantheon..He is almost as old as Ash and believe it or not, Ash was surprised when they finally met.. Once Ren accepts his Dark Hunter status he spends the next 11,000 years working to protect the world.Kateri Avani the last of her bloodline on her Mother's side and the cousin to Sunshine Runningwolf. Although, Sunshine is her cousin she is not the granddauther of a goddess.. and as completely clueless to the "other" things that reside beside her. Kateri is the one person who has been ordained to reset time before it runs out and the Demons are released. But once she starts learning about who she is and what she has to do her amazing belief in the good of mankind shines through. She steps up well she accepts what she must do after she is dragged into everything. There is just so much going on in this book it is amazing. This is not a transitional book although I do believe it is part of a dualogy with Retribution as part of story within a story of the Dark Hunters. As I said in the beginning this is not your typical Sherrie story. It is filled with Cherokee and Mayan Mythos.. a tip of the hat to 2012. We see Ash and Sundown and Sasha and Talon and Rain Runningwolf and Urian.. we don't see any of the women though.. rather interesting. Oh and we see Nicky and really learn something new about him.*****************semi spoiler alert********************For those of you who are mad at Nicky... you might find your opinions changed.. Nicky and Ash have a conversation that all but brought me to tears..*************end of semi spoiler alert*******************Although this book is way different to Sherrie's usual it has a definite appeal and I believe anyone who loves Kenyon will love this book.. and for those of you who have never read her.. you will find it an amazing read! Excellent Continuation to One of my favorite series
I'm a huge fan of sherilyn Kenyon, and every book just leaves me hungry for the next. This book is no exception. We were introduced to Ren in the last book, but the introduction was rather brief. But we got enough to know he is a tortured soul. This book shows us just how tortured he is, and how long he's been tortured. This guy is about the same age as Acheron, and has connections to three power sources, The tribe he was born with, the greeks from whom his mother comes, and the evil entity he was once tricked into serving.Kateri, on the other hand, is a scientist, and doesn't believe in the paranormal at all. Though raised by her grandmother, a very spiritual Native american woman, she believes her grandmother simply told her tales. That is until the tales come barging into her life trying to kill her and she's forced to confront a destiny she never believed was real, nor did she really know all the details of.Now the two comes together to stop the Grizzly spirit from entering the mortal realm and to reset the calender before tall the world's evils from every pantheon are unleashed. Now this brings to light something never made entirely clear before. Acheron's mother, Apollymi (who is always one of my favorite characters)destroyed her pantheon when Apollo killed Acheron, and she went on a rampage. I'd always thought she went right after the Greeks when she was done, but actually, she went after every neighboring pantheon that failed to aid her son. She did damage everywhere. Even more interesting, however, is that the pantheon she ruled and therefore destroyed, can be resurrected and Acheron would be in for an interesting fight since the pantheon hates him and his mother. Actually, I kinda want to see that happen. Would have been epic.Anyway, Acheron himself comes in to give aid where he can. After all, what's a dark hunter book without the fearless leader. And as always he shows us exactly how powerful he really is and why all the gods should crap themselves at the mention of his name. Ren shows off some interesting abilities too, and we get let in on the fact that he's loosely connected to Artemis, as he's apparently her godson. And he was partially raised by a demon, at least for the first year of his life. Interesting note, Ren had a stutter that occasionally resurfaces, which is why he doesn't speak too often.Anyway, Kateri is responsible for restarting the calender again, and she's revealed as the Great Guardian's daughter. Not entirely sure what happened to her father. There's some mystery for ya. But she has his powers as well as that of her grandmother, which makes her unique and interesting. She's fiercely devoted and caring, and the perfect match for Ren.Of course we get glimpses to other Dark Hunters and Nick is back too, perilously close to turning to the dark side because without his mother to anchor him he simply does not care about humanity. Which brings out the reason why Acheron was not able to bring his mother back and leaves me wondering just who or what can truly anchor Nick and keep him from destroying the world, and also making Apollymi very, very happy. The ending glimpse into the distant future gives a lot of hope for some resolutions. I can't wait for the next part of the series, whenever it comes

A recipe with too many ingredients thrown in!
Ok, I am a HUGE SK and dark hunter fan and had been eagerly awaiting this book since I first heard about it on her website. The day before I go on holiday it is delivered (excellent stuff!). So, hubby and friend take kids out and I thought I'd read it. A couple of hours later my head is throbbing and I have to say I am disappointed :(.In my own opinion I see the Dark/Were/Dream Hunter world as a fruitcake. Full of great ingredients but really moreish. Sherrilyn has added a few more ingredients to this already great recipe which have left a bit of a nasty taste in my mouth. I am sad to say the least.SPOILER ALERT coming up.Time Untime kinda carries on from Retribution. This time about Renegade who we thought was a dark hunter but isnt. He is the son of a pleiade and a cherokee warrior chief. Artemis is his protector and keeps him alive for his mother who was turned into a comet only seeing him once every 75 years. Kateri is the hummingbird and the only one that can reset a calendar. (Told you it gets complicated). For a fleeting moment the reader meets Time/Untime who are brother/sister gods. No idea where they come into it. Have read the book three times since.Admittedly it was nice catching up with Ash, Talon and Nick again. Seeing a nicer side of Nick was fun as well as meeting up with Sasha as well. However, these sidetracked the reader (me) away from the romance between Kat and Ren.The best way to put it is like a Star Wars film. At the end there is too much going on around for the reader (again me) to concentrate on the pivotal stuff, namely the romance between Ren and Kat. Adding the extra pantheon with the Mayan Gods just confused me, as well as having names which really I could not pronounce even in my head.I really hope that Sherrilyn will go back to what she does best and continue with her Hunter stories the way she can write and keep the reader wanting more, more, more. If you are reading this Sherrilyn, this was a very confusing book and I am hoping the next one I read from you will be as great as before.

Time Untime
I love Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series but I'm afraid I didn't love this book, Time Untime. I started to read this book when it was released last August but found it so difficult to 'get into' that I ended up re-shelving it and reading several other books from other authors in the meantime. I decided to re-try the book last week and after quite a bit of a struggle have finally managed to finish reading it. I'm sorry to say but unless the Dark Hunter series gets back on it's old track I shall not be continuing to read them anymore which is a pity as I have and have read every book in the series so far. I think it is the introduction of a new pantheon - The Mayans that has put me off and whilst I love history it's just too hard to make sense of and get into as there is just too much to be explained and make sense of. I wasn't overly impressed with Retribution which was along the same lines as this book but had thought Sherrilyn had got back on track with The Guardian only to find that she has reverted to Retribution's idea. One word to sum up my feelings on this book - disappointed.

not as good as the other dark hunter books
Most of this story about ren is told in flashbacks that kateri has about him being abused and degraded because he is the son of a greek goddess, it does make you feel sorry for him and has you rooting for him but the present ren doesnt seem to have much character this I feel is the authors fault she has tried to tell the story of ren through flashbacks and in doing so there isnt much dialogue between the two main characters so they dont feel like they are fully formed.the other characters in that are well known and loved seem like they were just dropped in, they have there usual sarcastic and funny dialogue you expect but because the main characters seem less formed it makes all the well loved characters seem so aswell.I think there is too much focus put into the flashbacks of ren when more focus should have gone into the present storyline, there were a lot of bad characters but you only really got to know one which was coyote. Also the author went overboard with how badly done to ren was which was emotional at times but later on it was like yes I get it he was emotionally, mentally and physically abused.I feel as though this story was rushed so I give this book 3.5*

Good
After reading some of the comments about this book that I had pre ordered as I do all SK books I didn't think I would like it but I did.I really liked reading about Nick,Ash,and the new characters as well as other old friends from the DH.

Disappointing
The whole Mayan twist in the DH series just hasn't sat well with me and I hope it's finished with now. It's a shame because I think Ren had so much potential, but this whole book feels rushed and the characters are not as 3 dimensional as the others. I get the impression this and Retribution were written simply to be a part of the whole 2012 Mayan prophecy and were rushed out to meet that. That's not to say there aren't some interesting scenes - some insights into Nick and Ash are the saving grace of this book and the only reason it gets 3 stars.
