I stand Corrected -- This is a great book.
I originally wrote that this book was impossible to use with the cd and gave it a negative review. Since then, the author has contacted me to explain how the cd is supposed to used along side the book. I feel silly now for not understanding the proper use of the cd. But otherwise, this is a great book that will keep you busy for a very long time if you practice the exercises properly and with a metronome. There is a wealth of exercises (pages and pages). He has 2 other books using this technique as well.I left my original review below. This book is decent, but the CD is impossible to use along with the book. The cd tracks are named 1 - 89. Each "Chapter" in the book has the examples labled 1 through 9 or whatever. How in the world are you supposed to line up the examples with the CD. It is very frustrating and a bad oversight by the producer of this book.I am using a metronome and I can read music so it ain't half as bad, but please if you are going to include a CD at least make it useable.

The best for serious hybrid picking
I had been looking for a self study method on hybrid picking not geared towards country or rock, wanting to be able to cross between flat picking and classical/fingerstyle. This book fit the bill, and really seems to be the only of its type. The exercises are extremely challenging, but after sticking with it a month or so, the work is really beginning to pay off. Absolutely thankful for Assis-Brasil's work on this.

Not 100% perfect, but still unbeaten.
Is the ultimate bible for hybrid picking. At the same time that it is part of the small group of books about the topic, it also dismiss several others you eventually would need because it is very solid. So far (page 90 out of 120), the only negative point I've seen is that the book's progression is a little bit exhaustive and may demand you more determination than usual. It totally pays off after page 80 (more or less). Gustavo's creative style brings you amazing examples that are really exciting for those into jazz and general guitar freakness (haha). There's nothing better when it comes down to hybrid picking 101!It's a must!

Great Study Batman!
This is a great book, an extra tool for modern sounds. I would suggest this book to anyone looking to increase their vocabulary of technique. But...I thought there would be more exercises in there, especially for 35$ It was a little light on the information. It starts with right hand stuff, gaining independence from one finger to the next. But then he goes atonal, there's not really any formula to what he does other than play the string with nearest finger. I would've liked to get some more linear things, scales, how he fingers them, and common arpeggios, not in 5's, like straight dominant, or maj,7th's would've been nice, he then give lines to go over chords and then his studys. It actually reminds me of classical guitar, through memorization, rather than pure improvisation. Don't get me wrong I liked the book, I was just expecting a little more from this guy, I mean you have to hear him play, amazing!

If you are like me and had no real experience with this style ...
I bought this book a few months ago, and after following the chapters slowly my right hand is something I've become proud of. If you are like me and had no real experience with this style it might take a while to get everything down but once you get past that point it will be well worth the effort!

A must for any serious guitarist!
There is a great benefit in learning to pick this way. This book is outstanding and will teach you everything you need to know. Start at the beginning and dont move to the next example until you feel comfortable with the one before it. You'll be amazed at how natural this technique feels and how quickly you will progress.

Schwere Kost
