Prospect (4K Ultra UHD) [Blu-ray] [2018] [4K UHD]

In an age where Sci Fi films have no restraint this film is my Favourite sci fi since 'Star Trek into Darkness'. Polar opposite of any recent Star Trek film. It really resonates in an age of diminishing resources. I live in New Zealand and 2023 has seen the worst storms in my life time and has highlighted the need to fix things ourselves. Re use cars, boats etc. If we think local or state goverment will save us, we're wrong. Technically the HDR reproduction is superb.

Proves that you can make an engaging science fiction movie that is well acted for what I assume is a limited budget. It's a bit Riddick, a bit Alien, a bit 2001, with a Western sensibility thrown in. It has an actual plot! Doesn't spoon feed the audience. Everything onscreen seems to have a backstory that isn't laid out for you. As an added bonus there is not one giant robot that turns into a car. *slight spoiler ahead* I ended up watching this one week after visiting the Hoh rainforest and seeing the old growth trees that haven't been messed with for profit for a few hundred years. Lots of moss and giant lush majestic mature trees. About half way through I suddenly realized why part of the setting seemed so familiar. It was shot there.Coincidence? You decide!(Well yeah actually it was totally coincidence.)

Very interesting movie. Very different for the others.

The hallmark of good sci-fi is that it's intelligent and assumes the consumer is as well. This modest film qualifies and is well worth watching. The two lead characters give subtle and often surprising performances. The film is certainly more of a short story than a novel, but it is well developed in its limited range of events. Little of the background is explicit - you have to figure it our for yourself, which makes it all the more intriguing. It reminded me of the recent film Doors, another low low budget SF film that surpasses your expectations. And the pacing is fine; it's not a hyperkinetic action film with cut-and-paste characters, which is all to its credit. The packaging is indeed second-rate, and the disk is a BD-R, not a true Blu-Ray. However, for those not initiated into their use, the bit rate is pretty much the same as a true Blu-Ray, and the HD image is excellent, even projected onto a large screen. I have several of these now and, while I don't prefer them, they look fine. I wish the sellers and packagers would be honest about it, though. BTW, there are some companies putting out grossly inferior, and probably computer-derived, films on genuine Blu-Ray disks, and they look dreadful. They also seem to be manufactured overseas (i.e. not in the U.S.). This film is NOT one of them. It is also anamorphic wide screen, not full screen. This info is to correct two previous reviewers.

I have to say with all the years as a sci fi fan. This is a very good movie. As for the blu ray copy of the movie its very well done with very good high quality details if your on the fence to buy the blu ray copy. The movie is presented full screen. I had this movie cranked up on a 7.1 sound system and the movie sounded very good. Hats off to the producers of this movie and just loved the attention to detail with the diffent settlements in the movie. This movie was the best sci fi story I have seen in a long time.

It's worth saying right up front that there's credit for writing a narrative where you either have a skill or you don't. SciFi is littered with people who magically have skills which don't suit their age, profession, or experience. Prospect does not make that mistake.That said, the pacing is painfully slow and the interactions between characters are weirdly hollow and superficial. The movie came across as something that should have been edited and cut down to a 20 minute short film.

A Prospect DVD/Blue ray was difficult to find. Excellent SF and Blue ray production.

A new addition to my collection. No issues.

Prospect is a sci-fi film which is somewhat different to the usual alien movies .It's set on a planet which is mined for a precious resource which is sought after by a ruthless band of cutthroats and a father and daughter looking for a better life. Very well acted especially by the young girl lead actress. Well worth a look.
