Stories that young people need to hear
I am an avid reader & am intrigued by the books of World War II, and especially the horrible experiences of the Jews at the hands of Hitler & the Nazis...this was a good story from the viewpoint of the women sent to Auschwitz, depicting its horrors & what it took to survive...however, I will admit I do not like stories that flip the chapters from present to past while reading...it just doesn’t flow smoothly to me...I was so aggravated by this & the slow beginning pace that I almost stopped reading at 25%...but when I begin a book, I do hate to not finish it, so I plodded forward & the last half was written much better...I sincerely hope that the younger generation of today will read this story & actually think about what happened when a megalomaniac like Hitler rose to power, confiscated all weapons & targeted a certain group of people for extinction..unlike what some schools teach now, it happened & it could happen again. One can only hope & pray that history does not repeat itself.

Historical Fiction at its best!
I love World War II Historical Fiction and this book did not disappoint. This is the story of Eva Adami, her best friend Sofie Weis, Helga and Vanda who are all imprisoned in Auschwitz trying to survive the horrors of the concentration camp during World War II. It is told in a then and now format with then detailing Eva being a 21-year-old artist falling in love and eventually marrying Michal Adami, a concert violinist. This is a heartbreaking story that is a real page turner. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this fantastic book in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys WWII Historical Fiction as it will not disappoint you.

One of the best in 2019!
Many times stories about the Holocaust are so painful to read that you don’t want to finish them, but not this one. Even with all the horrendous atrocities the characters face, their human spirit shines through and, in the end, you are grateful to have taken this journey with them. It’s hard to believe that human beings could treat other human beings this way, yet the story is based on the biographies of several survivors and it’s SO important that we remember. I highly recommend this book and all of Lily Graham’s novels. Her stories are compelling, well-written, and definitely worth your time. She is a terrific writer who can pull you in immediately and keep you interested until the very end every time. Such a talent! I always look forward to her books and eagerly await her next one!

Though Fiction, it is pretty accurate
The Child of Auschwitz is by Lily Graham. This historical fiction is based on a true story of the birth of a child in Auschwitz at the end of the war. The child was not expected to live; but the Blockalteste made her get on the top bunk and helped her deliver her child. Of course, the child was malnutritioned and so tiny that it was not expected to live; however, the child did. This story is a combination of this one child’s story and that of many other children who were also born in Auschwitz and other camps. The story is told in such a way that you feel for the young girl who managed to get pregnant by her own husband in the camp and actually give birth while surrounded by her surrogate family. Families were made in the camps by women who bonded together to help each other when they were alone in the camps. The conditions of the camp were detailed and from what I have read and heard from survivors, the descriptions are pretty accurate.

Heart wrenching & brilliant story
Oh Lily, what a beautiful, heartbreaking story. You’ve surpassed yourself with The Child Of Auschwitz. It had never crossed my mind that babies could be born in such horrific circumstances. This is an excellent book, written with such feeling. I could only imagine how terrible it must have been. Readers, do yourself a favour & read this book.

3.5 stars
This was a pretty quick and enjoyable read. However, I will say this, I feel as if the title if very misleading in what the book is about. I believed it would be the story of a child born into a Nazi death camp and while the premise of the story is based on that, very little of the story focuses on it at all.You follow the story of Eva, who willingly left the ghetto she was living in to search for her husband Michal in Auschwitz II-Birkenau. She leaves in her search having no idea what has become of him, he could be alive or dead, but she wont stop until she finds out the truth. Her friend Sofie, from the ghetto she was living, chooses to follow Eva on her own mission... To find her cousin Lotte who betrayed her. Lotte also knows where Sofie's son is and she is determined to be reunited with him again. You'll have to read this yourself to find out the fate of both these women and ultimately who birthed the child of Auschwitz and what became of that child but I give this read a solid 3.5 🌟

Poorly edited - Full of errors
So poorly written I finally gave up and threw the book in the recycle bin. Not even worth donating it...... historical errors, grammatical errors on every page, a total train wreck!

My review
There was nothing I disliked about this book. The heroism of these women is wonderful. It is a story that need to be told over and over so the younger generation will know what really happened during World War II.

Powerful, evocative and emotional .
It is 1942 and having been in a Jewish concentration camp and ghetto in Terezin for nearly a year Eva Adami, desperate to find her husband Michal, and having no knowledge that such a hell hole and a place of death and degradation existed, she volunteers to transfer to the camp of Auschwitz in the hope of finding him.Combining historical fact with fiction, The Child of Auschwitz is a powerful story of resilience, courage, survival , love and the incredible strength of the human spirit.I found this such an emotional and evocative read and it kept me gripped and turning those pages well into the night.Great characterization and rich descriptive prose that made you feel the cold and their everyday hunger and agony made this a 5 stars highly recommended read from me.Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC for my honest review.

Well written - had me hooked from the first to last page!
Having been to Auschwitz/Birkenau last year, on a very wet and miserable day, l could visualise the awful conditions the characters were going through and l felt l was part of this tragic story. The book was very well written and had me hooked from the very first page! I think everyone should visit Auschwitz if they can, it was on my bucket list for many years and, although it was a difficult and upsetting visit, it really brought it home to me the awful, horrific and unbelievable events that happened at the two camps. This should never be allowed to happen again!

Remarkable
I have read many books with the holocaust at its heart and the tragic people who suffered simple because they happened to be Jewish or one of the other groups Hitler demanded be wiped out. This is one of the most compelling I have read. Fiction? Yes! worth reading? most definately!

A heartbreaking story of love, life, loss and hope.
I loved this story set during an unbelievable time in our history and it still beggars belief that such a time actually existed and is not a work of fiction. I get put off reading a book that is full of spelling or grammatical errors or bad punctuation, but this one was excellently edited. I loved the story of Eva and Sofie's friendship and of Eva and Michal's love story. I would have loved the story to have gone on longer and covered in more detail their lives before and after Auschwitz. I didn't want it to end. I would certainly read more by this author.
