Wee Sing Nursery Rhymes and Lullabies Audio CD – September 8, 2005

My Mom and I used to quote that every time we would go on a trip. This is easily one of the best Wee Sing tapes, now available on CD. My cousin recently had her 2nd baby and I bought it for him. And since my Mom had the NERVE to sell our original copy of this one in a garage sale, I just HAD to download it to my iPod before wrapping it.The nursery rhyme part of it, is also set to a story of Georgie Peorgie, Jack and Jill, and Mary going to King Cole's Birthday party, and on the way meeting other Mother Goose Characters.Here are some interesting facts and trivia on some of the nursery rhymes and lullabies.THERE WAS A LITTLE GIRL. Originallly titled "JEMIMA," was written SURPRISE! SURPRISE! by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow about his daughter about a time that she misbehaved. Everyone knows the first verse. But there are two other verses that are almost never anthologized.One day she went upstairs while her parents unawares.Sitting below were at their meals.She stood upon her head on her little trundle bed,and then began hurraying with her heals.Her Mama heard the noise and thought it was the boysA playing at a combat in the attic.But when she climbed the stair and saw Jemima thereShe took and she did Spank her most emphatic!LUCY LOCKET If you own this product, you'll remember that the poem is sung to the tune of Yankee Doodle. What you may not know is that Lucy Lockett is the main tune and that the yankees got the melody for Yankee Doodle from Lucy Lockett.GOOD NIGHT TO YOU ALL Isn't really a lullaby, but it was a round dating back to the 19th century often sung by quartets in hotels and such as a finale.EARLY TO BED Was written, believe it or not by Benjamin Franklin. And was used as a way to get children to go to bed on time.SWEETLY SLEEP Is a parody of a Czech Christmas carol called "ROCKING," which you will find on "Wee Sing for Christmas." Either song gets me in a Christmas mood no matter what time of the year it is.All in all, this is a first rate recording and perfect for the young and the young at heart. So if you or anyone you know is about to have a baby, go ahead and buy it. You certainly won't go wrong.

These old children's songs are a treasure for our little ones, every home with little ones should have these lovely old fairy tale songs in their home!

When my oldest son was young, we practically wore out the Wee Sing Nursery Rhymes and Lullabies CASSETTE TAPE (!), and those songs have stayed with me all these years. I positively LOVED this compilation of music and stories, and thought maybe I was just nostalgic in how fondly I remembered them. So I am on "family #3)" (kids 28,24--16,15--7,4) and the original cassette wore out long ago (plus I wouldn't have any way to play it if I did still have it...) One day I decided to try to buy a CD for a road trip, and this was my immediate first choice. The truth is, my kiddos now love these songs as much as all the others have! They are catchy tunes and fun renditions of oft-repeated mother goose (et al.) nursery rhymes. I love all of the Wee Sing tapes but this one is definitely my favorite!Please like my review if I helped you decide in any way. Thanks.

I love this CD. The narration tells of children going to London Town for Old King Cole's birthday party. It integrates all the classic nursery rhymes and then ends with a soothing lullaby section. The music book is perfectly laid out, lending to fun singing times at the piano/guitar. I have two minor critiques:1. Vocal ranges: As a former music teacher, I'm quite particular. Most songs are just fine, but several go as low as an A below the staff. Too low for a young child.2. Pitch: In general, this is fine, but a few of the children are a little flat, which drives me nuts. Thankfully, it's only for a few songs.

We love listening to the ‘wee sing’ series (my kids’ favorite is the ‘wee sing silly songs’!). This nursery and lullaby version is nice to listen to in the car when I’m wanting to settle my kids down but I have to admit - I was disappointed in how much talking/story telling/dialogue there was on the CD! I was hoping for simple and relaxing nursery rhymes and instead it is just a lot of talking. This is not the best ‘wee sing’ version, in my opinion, and it does not hold my kids’ attention like the other CDs do. Hope that helps!

We love this CD! We purchased it as part of a homeschool curriculum and have enjoyed it on most of our car rides. We easily can spend 1 to 2 hours in the car on any given day and my boys never tire of running through this delightful sing song story. The way the story line incorporates childrens rhymes and lullabies is enchanting and we have all memorized the verses. It is wonderful to have something bring to life the nonsense verse and rhymes that have enchanted generations of children in such a modern, revitalized method. We love WEE SING!

I have several issues with this CD.First all the songs are packed into a (very wordy) story which is nice for road trips but definitely not to learn a song by itself.Also, many of the kids don't sing very clearly and you have to read along to even understand the words of the song. I don't know many of the songs because I didn't grow up in an English speaking country and I rely on them being sung clearly.The story is definitely fun though and we listen to it in the car when we go places.

I teach Kindergarten and I have used this little gem for many years. We moved temporarily to a different school because ours was being demolished. I lost the book in the move and I couldn't find a copy anywhere. Fortunately, there was a vendor who had a slightly used copy. My students enjoy these nursery rhymes and lullabies tremendously. I sit at the piano and my kids sing their hearts out.

Our kids loved these and we're now buying them for our grandchildren.

Simpatico CD adatto per abituare i bimbi all'ascolto della lingua inglese, sin dai primi anni. Le canzoni possono essere poi facilmente mimate, in qualsiasi luogo. Mio figlio si diverte molto ad ascoltarlo!!

Some people may like it but my delicate ears didn't. Also its not a big book of nursery rhymes like I thought. :(

Ich habe dieses Buch für die Kita bestellt. Leider gefällt es mir nicht so gut. Ich konnte es nicht für meine Arbeit nutzen, auch wenn keine schlechten Inhalte in dem Buch sind.
