The best Vovo 240 Manual
If you own a 240 Volvo and even if you don't do much of the work on it yourself, this manual is a must have. Complete and clear with very few errors, this will tell you more about your 240 and how to fix it than anything you can buy for under $50. The factory books may well be better but this is relatively inexpensive and will pay for itself with the first moderate repair. Don't waste your money on Chilton's junk ... this is the repair manaual you will want if you own and love a 240 "Brick". It is the best 240 repair manual I have used in 25 years of Volvo ownership. I've used it for everyhting from simple repairs like brake pads to replacing an automatic transmission. I have saved literally tens of thousands of dollars fixing my Bricks using this great manual! Also make sure you check out the Brickboard.com online for great advice from the national Volvo loving community. With this manual and the Brickboard advice you can literally fix anything on your 240 Volvo.

Women and "rip-off" auto repairs!!
I am the original owner of a 1984 Volvo 240 series Turbo, manual transmission w/overdrive. I bought this manual to help me get this car into running order - I was medically restricted from driving for several years, and now, due to surgery I can drive again. This manual has been critical in helping me self-educate myself about the maintenance, large and small, for getting my car on the road again. In years past I would just take my car either to the dealership or a recommended Volvo mechanic and pay the "going rate." And being female, it usually meant paying more for the same services as male customers, sometimes as much as double. Now that I am retired, I decided to "shop around". This Bentley Manual has already saved me hundreds of dollars, and will continue to save me even more. Every specification is listed for each of the operating systems of the vehicle along with diagrams. With this information I have been able to do detailed research on the internet for more detailed diagrams for my particular model and to order parts directly from the manufacturers and/or importers of parts. The customer reps with the parts companies give me great service because I know what parts I need - "thank you" Bentley. As an example, when I replaced the brake system (rotors and pads) I saved over $300 by using this manual, and all the parts I ordered are OEM!!Fortunately I have all the records for my car from the day I bought it, so I am able to compare what has been charged for parts and labor over the years. Even 10 years ago, some parts were charged at twice the rate that I am purchasing them now. Now I will be able to take the best care of my car and I loved learning the technical information that the Bentley Service Manual has put at my fingertips. Also, the condition of the Manual is "like new" and the Amazon price was more than covered in my very first parts purchase. I am a very happy customer!!!

Robert Bentley Manual
Book was shipped on time. Was well packed. Actually hated to bring out in shop and take a chance on getting it dirty. Bentley is the way to go. Able to diagnose problem and make an easy repair.

A very sound investment
The book covers the subject comprehensively, is very well organized and is abundantly illustrated with diagrams as well as photos. The text is very readable and truly informative. In my opinion, the material is primarily useful for learning how to troubleshoot and repair the various vehicle subsystems. When today's automotive technician time in a Volvo specialized repair shop is routinely priced at over $100 per hour, the price of this book can be recovered if it saves you less than 30 minutes in the shop. Even if you do not choose to carry out a repair yourself, the information found in this book will help make you a better informed consumer. If you wish to learn a lot about one of the Volvo models covered by this book, your need will most likely be met.

Seems Better Than Haynes
I used to use a Haynes manual, but after a number of fumbles through their seemingly vague troubleshooting and so on, I finally bit the bullet for this. Super detailed, great troubleshooting protocols, much better descriptions for repairs. If you wish to maintain a brick mostly on your own, this is probably necessary, along with patience, hope, and helpful friends and fellow volvoe freaks! (and a handful of 4 letter words here and there :)

I have Bentley, Chilton, and Haynes manuals. ...
I have Bentley, Chilton, and Haynes manuals. They all have their own advantages. The Volvo forums refer to Bentley much more often than the others, and it seems to be derived from the Volvo shop manuals. Some of the reprinted drawings and wiring diagrams in the Bentley manual are hard to read, so I use all three books together. I've learned a lot from these manuals and tinkering (carefully) with a few old Volvos, but for the big jobs the manuals are no substitute for a skilled & experienced mechanic!

Make this Your First Choice!
I have been working on my vehicles since 1968 as a teenager. I have owned six or eight different service manuals for various different cars and motorcycles in that time. Some have been excellent (1972 VW Type II shop manual) and others had just enough information in them to change a light bulb or get you into trouble (Chilton Volvo 1993 960). I also have the 1983 Chevy shop manual for the Blazer which is an automotive tome if I ever saw one.I just bought the Bentley 240 manual and while it is not as detailed as the Volvo shop manual (which is actually a series of books, each covering one specific system), for the cost it is an excellent investment for anyone working on their own car. It is well laid out and fairly easy to find what you need.I also have the Haynes 240 manual (Haynes 97020- available for as little as $19 shipped if you shop around). it makes an excellent companion to the Bentley, but if I had to recommend one over the other, the Bentley is the one to get.I rated it as 4 stars becasue it is not as complete as the factory information, but for the home mechanic, it is a 5!

Pretty nice but got old images
This manual is big and full of very important informations. Schematics and other stuff are well exposed. Unfortunately is not specifically made for latest 240 Polar (and Super Polar) edition, equipped with B200E rather than B200F but you have just a little less to find on other specific manual from Volvo. One bad point is that some schematics and some images are old and comes from old black and white shots. This is not good because in some cases you can really look at photo references quoted in the book (e.g. "turn the screw you can see in the image... :-( ).For the rest, if you own a 240, this book is a must.I'll try to add some photos, later.
