Great futon mattress for small spaces
My room is on the smaller side and space is really important to me. Having purchased this mattress was a great decision. It's very comfortable to sleep on, important to note that I am a smaller person so cannot attest to those who may be heavier or taller than me (I ordered a Twin size), great quality (surface is soft, but I like to place linen over it to keep it clean), easy to store away, is thick enough to not feel the hardness of the tile floor. I was hesitant at first because I wasn't sure how the comfort would compare to my old traditional spring mattress, but I sleep much better on this new one, which is great. My cat loves it too, she naps on it when I have it stored in my closet, so cat approved!

Wow...
This mattress is nice and thick. When I received it, at first glance it seemed too firm. I was sleeping on a carpeted floor before due to back pain, so I thought this mattress is no different. Wrong! It is amazing. There is something about it, that literally sucks you in once you lay down. You do not want to move, just relax. Pure magic, lol. It is expensive, but it is worth every penny. Also, I noticed that it is a little bit on the warmer side, but may be because I use 2 warm wool blankets, and it kind of traps warmth? Not sure, but it is vital for cold Buffalo weather and drafts on the floor and I absolutely love it. Might be different in the summer when we use onlya think blanket.

No longer Japanese Quality - Cannot Recommend this
I bought this after having purchased the prior version a few years ago with a night and day difference! This one is very cheaply made in materials & quality but it is 4 inch's .1. It only weighs 9 pounds while the old one was around 19 pounds and mostly cotton filled and what's inside this is really nothing that can be seen as they no longer give you a zipper to open it up and its 4 layers combined that's 20% wool & 80%Polyester total (pillow stuffing).2. Outer fabric is very thin almost easy to rip with your fingers. prior version had a high quality Outer fabric that had an almost mattress feel to it that was impressive! this one feels like a cheap pillow you would find at the dollar store.3. This one offers no support compared to prior versions, when you sleep on it yes its firm but offers no support, you get stiffness, sore points, misalignment of hips, back pressure and the inability. the prior version was firm but 100% supportive and provided a very restful experience with a great nights sleep!4. Good thing its not too expensive, but you would be wasting your money buying this!. I would recommend another brand like J-Life if your really expecting high quality as this one is not something to use everyday. it might be perfect for a pet? maybe if you have big dog? using on lawn furniture on an indoor porch? otherwise this is not something I would recommend as a daily sleeper. I think most in japan would feel the same way, its not Japanese quality, not something for western users unless as a pet bed or temporary use for a toddler.5. I did contact them after placing the order, concerned the shipping weight was too low, not matching the listing weight. thought that they might of shipped the wrong one. they contacted me right back, said the shipping service was inaccurate and they shipped the right one. they shipped the right one, in a brown paper bag! no paperwork or invoice or anything included. so it could not be sent back?.5.1 Its about $100 cheaper in price then the older high quality version. maybe that's the trade off. the optional $75 Emoor cover I bought for it was really nice, but maybe that was part of the trade off too?5.2 They were very polite and friendly in correspondence while fast shipping timemaybe they still think they have a good quality product? the older 3.75 inch mostly cotton version was perfect, high quality. maybe they thought no one would notice the difference and change?6. Unfortunately my old one was donated to the red cross early this year, this day and age its a learning lesion to not get rid of something, they might not make it that good any more if you do.7. I will be donating this to the Goodwill soon with a note attached that reads "Perfect Dog Bed"

Better than the other Emoor shikibuton
We have a queen size Emoor shikibuton that was a bit thin on its own (we end up using it as a mattress topper on top of IKEA foam mattress), but we haven't given up on sleeping on the floor. So we thought we'd try this one with non-vacuumed packaging and some wool blend layer. This shikibuton hits. the. spot. It is thick enough without being too heavy. It has the right balance between soft and firm. I can easily fold it in three and put it in the closet when not used. I love it! I want to buy another of this shikibuton, but price has increased by a third since we bought it in June this year. Not sure if I should wait it out until price "goes back to normal-ish" or just bite the bullet and buy.

Great unless you sleep like a log in the same spot, then it wears down
Great for my back, some discomfort when I end up on my side, but no more than expected. I used this for about 8 months, and unfortunately I have a tendency to sleep in the same spot and not move much, so there is a definite dent in the futon now. I stood at the foot of it today and noticed how much more plush it is there than where I sleep. But then, I do this with every mattress that isn't a god awful dorm sack of springs, though usually not so quick.Back pain is definitely reduced from before; not quite as good as the $1k mattress I borrowed from a friend, and definitely not as comfortable for side sleepers, but great for the price. Plus, I love the portability. Probably getting a new mattress when I move, but will keep this around.

Finally!
I’ve tried many sleep systems, but I’m in love💕 with this futon! Is it firm? Yes, but there’s just enough “give” to it that provides a hint of that “sinking in” feeling while still keeping my spine aligned. I have low back and hip damage from chemo. I sleep on my back and side. I though I would need a thin topper, but it’s perfect as it is.I paired this futon with their half-fold slatted floor mat. The slats: 1) can fold to form a triangle that the futon can be draped across to air out, 2) can fold flat for storage (in a closet, under a bed, against a wall, or to free up floor space until needed again.I live in a small studio apartment. Would definitely buy this again.

Sleep quality!
+Easy to fold and stow away+Doesn't get too hot+Pretty decent support and thickness for a floor futon but still on the thin side, don't expect hotel mattress fluffy though. This is for people who want a firm surface to sleep on.Finally got rid of the memory foam matress and went back to my old ways of sleeping on the floor and has helped with forward head posture and neck soreness. Sleep quality has improved.

Great for my back
I bought this bed because I needed a firm mattress for my back. It’s perfect. I’m sleeping way better and no pain.

DO NOT BUY!
As another reviewer said, I have never felt more misled by an item description on Amazon. This mattress is definitely not 4 inches thick and is hard as a rock. It seems to be made out of a slab of concrete, no exaggeration. Lying on the cold, bare floor would be more comfortable. The box in which it was packed is not reusable as it was not taped properly and was completely ripped upon arrival. This is the worst purchase I have ever made on Amazon.
