The XS(4) fits a weight of 34-36lbs, so if the 3 year old is within that weight range, then it would fit properly.

Q: What size should I order for a boy 48'' tall and 50 pounds?

Small/6-8. My 55lb 8 year old wears that size and it’s perfect. (He does occasionally wear his older brother’s medium /10-12 but it’s pretty baggy. )
