'Hand wash only' adds a touch of delicate care to what seems like a robust piece of headwear. So, while my hairstyle and hats typically have a frosty relationship, the promise of genuine warmth might just tempt me to make an exception. This is a winter hat that does its job incredibly well. I've never had one of this quality. The 100% wool is probably the difference maker. I promise you that your head will not get cold while wearing this hat. I walked 5 miles round-trip in a snow storm last week in over a foot of icy snow. My head and ears stayed warm and toasty the entire time. Pair this hat with a good scarf and you will laugh in the face of winter!It is definitely itchy the first few times you wear it, but I've found that this goes away overtime - especially after the first wash or two. I'm anal about the way my clothes feel on me, so if I can wear it, chances are you can too.I recommend gently handwashing and air drying this hat to maintain its quality overtime. I expect it to last at least several winters. Amazing deal. Grab a few of these for you and your family. Great to have on hand.

Inexpensive and good quality

I ordered this on a whim because I needed a wool beanie for a trip this weekend.When i opened the package, I was worried it was too thin. Held up to light I could see through it.Once I put it on it was what you'd expect from a wool beanie - snug, warm, and comfortable. The real test is if it can handle 20 degree temps this weekend, but i'm sure it will as I'm pairing it with a thermal head and face cover. I'm happy that for only a few sheckles I got a good wool beanie.I'm unsure if the ""made to DoD specs" is real or a marketing thing - smells like BS. If that's the decision maker for you go look at real military surplus gear. But just know that its a good bang for your buck wool beanie and you'll be happy with it.
