American Idol Season 2: All Time Classic American Love Songs

Mixed bag
This is an interesting mix of songs from the season 2 American Idol finalists. They range from very good to very, very bad. Some high/lowlights:Clay Aiken, On the Wings of Love: Far and away the best song on the album, showcasing Clay's strong, clear vocals.Josh Gracin, Three Times a Lady: I was not a Josh fan, so I was surprised how good this song is. Excellent version.Corey Clark, Open Arms: The question isn't why he was disqualified, it's why he was there in the first place. Truly awful.Kim Locke, Over the Rainbow: She sang this twice on the show so it's no surprise it's on the album, but I wish she'd chosen another song. She has a fabulous voice, though.Carmen Rasmusen, How do I live: Carmen reaches her usual low standard, sounding rather like a cat being strangled.Trenyce, Let's Stay Together: Trenyce always impressed me with her versatility and ability to sing any genre well. Good, solid song. Conclusion: worth buying whether you're an American Idol fan or not, just know where the "next track" button is.

A must have for AI2 fans
It's fun to hear these talented young people through the benefit of studio production and a good stereo system. Most people up to now have only been able to listen over the TV or computer, so this is a real treat. Clay Aiken's voice in "On the Wings of Love" soars to the heavens and he nails this one to the wall. Kim Caldwell also comes through very impressively with "Killing Me Softly" and it's good to hear Rickey Smith's wonderful vocals with "Back at One." And the group versions of "God Bless the U.S.A." and "What the World Needs Now Is Love" are really lovely.

Good voices, terrible music
There are some great singers on AI2 (Ruben, Kimberly, Clay, Rickey) and some bad (Carmen, Josh), but nothing on this CD is as bad as the bland studio music backing these tracks. Some potentially great songs are dulled by it, and the mediocre (carmen) are turned into miserable. The only sing that really rises above its music is, surprisingly, Julia DaMato's "At Last," which is well-sung and even well-played.

One of the Best This Year
This CD doesn't have a weak track on it. The selection of songs was great and the artists rendered some of their best performances. Clay's and Ruben's performances were strong, but Julia DeMato's rendition of "At Last" really blew me away. I hope we hear more from her in the future. Kimberly Caldwell gave one of the best renditions of "Killing Me Softly with His Song" that I have ever heard. Trenyce and Kimberley Locke were also exceptional. I look forward to hearing them live this summer.

American Idol Fan Must Have.
With the exception of Corey Clark (who still makes my ears bleed) this is a pretty good CD. I like the CD over all but have to say my fovorite performances are from Kimberly Locke, Clay, Ruben, and Josh. The others were good but no where in the league of these four.If you were a fan of the shoe this is a must have.

Only a few singers got a hold on me
Some better songs would of gone down, better on this CD.Clay is the best and the song he sang is tops.
