The latest DK Eyewitness Travel Guide to Great Britain is now available to the enterprising traveler. Great Britain offers astonishing variety to the traveler who plans ahead, and this hefty 2020 guide may be all the resource most travelers need to plan a great visit. The guide opens with an introduction to Great Britain, followed by chapters that deal with England, Wales and Scotland. London gets its own section. of course. The last section offers some practicalities on to and around Britain, including the surprising number of transportation options (planes, trains, automobiles, buses and even long distance foot paths).This year's format uses plainer paper than previous editions. It still has the goods on a variety of opportunities for recreation, such as exploring the Scottish Highlands or the oddly mountainous Lakes District; for touring centuries-old historic sites such as Stonehenge; and for world class shopping and entertaining in London, one of the world's great cities. Maps provide options for exploring within some towns and cities, for example, the ancient university town of Oxford. The narrative includes more opinions on what to see, including recommendations for week-long excursions that link points of interest within a given area. The photography is excellent, if slightly less glossy on the new paper.There is a lot to like in Great Britain, and this Eyewitness Guide is a great way to sort it out. The listings of places to stay and to eat are admittedly a little limited, but nothing a little web-browsing won't cure. Suggested websites are included. Highly recommended to the enterprising traveler.

The DK series hits the sweet spot of content and illustrations. The pictures grab your interest but the amount of detail is sufficient but not overwhelming when deciding which sites to include.

Definitely not a fan of the new design of these books. DK Travel Guides used to be absolutely wonderful. I would buy them even if I didn’t have plans to visit a particular place simply bc of the high quality and great general information. The new style leaves a lot to be desired. Paper is basically news print and the content is messy and hard to follow. Do yourself a favor and find a used DK book.
