Princess Grace

Really a Six Star Book
The front cover and back cover are different pictures of Grace as a princess. This story unfolds as she develops a reconstructed identity, a stronger one, of the various kinds of princesses - and the historical value is intact. The young reader learns about how a princess can go to war, lead a battle, and also be courteous, kind and strong hearted. My daughter, in 3rd grade, checked this book out of the library and we LOVE it. I have given it as a gift to her cousins because the storyline is priceless. If you liked Mulan, Fat Albert the Movie, Ever After the movie, or if you have a princess who's as smart and brave as she is pretty, you will enjoy this educational, entertaining and easy to read story.

What a princess book should be
We checked this out of the library, and I was expecting it to be just another princess book. Instead, I was blown away with the question that Grace's grandma asks about "what does a princess DO?" I loved the exploration of this question as they pondered how looking pretty didn't sound very fun, and then learned at school about different real princesses and the exciting things they did. I highly recommend this book for a good perspective change for every little girl who is into princesses!

Classic Book
Bought these for my first grader. I read Grace books when I was a little girl and am happy to share them with my daughter. Wish they could have been purchased as a set.

Queen Amina!
Amazing Grace was one of my favorite books growing up and I wanted to get this one for my daughter. This one was just as good! I named my daughter after Amina. To my surprise the queen I named her after is in this book! ♥️♥️

Good story for boys and girls about cultural heritage
From the cover title it appears the book is about Grace becoming a Princess, but in reality it's about how all boys and girls have a unique cultural heritage and all can be "princes and princesses" of their cultural background. Overall positive message for boys and girls. Appropriate for K-3 classrooms and home settings. Could be the basis for an in-class activity about cultural heritage. Probably good to review prior to using to make sure your school is comfortable with the message of boys becoming "princeses." In short, all girls and boys are ambassadors of their culture.

wonderful book
I take part in a tutoring program at a local school. One of the children brought this book to read and I fell in love with it. Fantastic book for teaching diversity, and how good teachers, parents and schools work. I ore=dered this for my granddaughter for her Birthday

Princesses should be more than pretty
Great book for highlighting how useless modern day “fairy” princesses are vs. those who actually did something.

A lovely book
I bought this to read to my 3.5 year old daughter who is starting to show awareness of differences between her and her friends at nursery. Like many girls her age, she is Disney mad and loves anything with a 'usually blonde haired blue-eyed' princess. She was slightly sceptical the first time we read this (you mean there are other types of princesses?) and it was a great opportunity to discuss and praise her differences in a harmless fun way. This is now her favourite book and she constantly tells her friends stories of all the different European, Chinese, Nigerian princesses who have important jobs as spies and ride on horses!

My daughter loved this book and has asked me to read it to her again and again. I like that it gently challenges traditional images of what it means to be a princess/feminine.
