80-DDP15BG Digital Drive Plus 15-Inch 117V 60Hz Subwoofer (Ebony High Gloss)

I've been a Velodyne user since 1994. My first was the legendary ULD-15. It has been amazing - until in May when the electronics package crashed. Clipping is not a pretty thing. Ten yeas ago I supplemented the ULD with a Velodyne SPL1500R. Two are better than one especially in smoothing room induced phase level variance at very low frequencies. I replaced my crashed ULD with the 80-DDP15BG. Wow! The self setup program minimizes phase induced issues throughout the listening area. By itself it was deeper and richer sounding than the ULD and SPL combined. When I added the SPL back in and equalized the levels of both of them with my Martin-Logans, I have sound I have heard only in XD and IMAX theaters. Yes, it was that much better than the ULD-15!

I bought a DD15 and have had it for about 8 years. When Velodyne was a smaller company their customer service was very good, which should be expected at the audiophile level. Now, they absolutely do not care to respond to any inquiries . In addition, the DD15 has failed and there is no option but to take the 3K loss. I would not buy from Velodyne again.

Used in TV den and main music system. The good news is that Velodyne has been purchased by a new owner and so now we all may be able to get repairs again. My ancient 18s are the best I have ever had, but now two have simply aged out electronically. I am waiting to see if factory repair is up and running again. Another avenue is just to add a separate sub amp and forego the velocity feedback loop. I'm told that that works well.
