Maybe for $5... but then how valuable is your time?
I feel compelled to write a review for this book because the reviews seem unbelievably skewed (20 something reviews all with 4 stars or better). Dutch's friends must have all wrote the reviews, and I got duped. I'm an analyst, and I read a lot of books in general, and tend to enjoy poker books whether it's strategy or ones that tell a simple story. This is a story telling book (and not a good one at that). To sum it up, he talks about the following:1. Pokerspot (Dutch got hosed in this deal. Something like the Fulltilt debacle, but on a much lesser scale. Plus he got fleeced by some dudes in Canada over the coding)2. He's got a mental disorder (bipolar disorder? but I don't care to look through the book again to find out exactly what it was; he goes through psychosis, aggravated by insomnia and his drug use). He also helps a dude who goes through similar mental issues.3. The highs and lows of poker life (I don't know how all his tournament cashes add up to over a million from what he shared in the book, and I don't care to do the math. I'll take his word for it and assume his cash games helped).4. The poker "Crew" wasn't much of a crew (one can debate the "realism" vs "liberalism" concept all day here). What happened to "empty seat" btw?5. He hooks up with Paris Hilton's friend and later Amanda Leatherman, who's just a poker groupie.6. This is in line with how rough the pro poker life can be, but he discusses how even when he wins, he doesn't keep everything after taxes (backers take a large portion).I gave Dutch 2 stars instead of 1 because of his honesty (the pro poker life is very rough) through all his highs and lows (and also I really wanted the damn book to end, but I kept reading until the end for some reason, so I gotta give credit where it's due, I guess). I definitely wouldn't spend 20$ on this book, maybe $5. Honestly, I bought this because of the reviews, but I was disappointed. I'm surprised Michael Craig gave it such a great review (definitely makes me think less of his "Banker" book).

Great poker biography!
I don't know Dutch and before I read this book I had very little info on Pokerspot. However, this is a great bio on a young kid trying to make it in the crazy world of poker. Many people may question Dutch's integrity especially regarding the Pokerspot scandal and Dutch explained his side of the story which sounded very plausible. Aside from the Pokerspot story, it is clear that Dutch is a very talented poker player and one of very few people to actually win multiple WSOP bracelets. For anyone who wanted an inside account of what it is like to grind your way as a poker professional, this is a very good book from a young talented players attempt to reach the pinnacle of the poker world. I felt Dutch was very candid in this book about many topics (some very controversial) such as legality of online poker, drugs, highs and lows of the gambling life and his own personal demons with his mental illness. This is not a poker strategy book - its a great poker story on one of the games' most controversial figures. I recommend it.

An unvarnished look at life during the poker "boom"...
If you are at all a historian of poker or were aware of the rapid growth of poker during the first decade of this century, this book is a must read.Dutch does an amazing job of detailing the unseen life of professional players, with a self awareness that is equal parts outputting and humbling. The lessons of this tome are many, but the most meaningful is the understanding that life moves forward, for Dutch, and for all of us.As an aside, It couldn't have been easy for him to relive these moments and for that the book deserves a sixth star.

Absolute Must Read for Poker Enthusiasts
I wasn't sure what I was going to be reading when I bought this book but this is the first book I've opened in my Kindle and was unable to put down until I got to the very end. The story telling is very authentic, very riveting, and the ups and downs that come with poker made this a very enjoyable read. I saw a lot of the same things that I've had go through my own head as a player repeated back to me in this book and made me realize some things I was doing right and some thing I was doing totally wrong. I don't recommend books - this one I do - for any poker player.

Excellent Book and Who Could Beat the Price
Dutch Boyd has written a really good and varied book. Not only does he discuss his poker career, but he also details the pitfalls of creating a poker website and his battles with bipolar disorder. He has a smooth, easy writing style in a book that is packed with humor and cogent observations on life. It is in no way a poker text, but it is well worth the time spent staring at the pages... I've paid a lot more for books that weren't nearly as good.

Good read was informative on his life
Good read was informative on his life. Seems he got away with some fraud in his early days that escalated to being a cast member on Shutter island. Now he lives his life on the roller coaster +EV decisions that end with -EV decisions. Check him out on Twitch and hear about his Almosts and hopefully next years plans.

Would have liked more hand detail of winning events, but good story, well written. V few grammatical errors, which is good for a poker book.

interesting read
Good book, interesting insight into the crazy world of degenerate poker players and their lifestyle. In addition to the awareness of mental illness...Enjoyed the background of Phil and Antonio.
