Not Immensely Recommendable
This label, Real Gone Music is one of many out-of-copyright labels, all run by these out-of-copyright merchants who specialize in anything over fifty years old up to the end of 1962. Usually the tracks are dubbed either from other CDs, some of them from other out-of-copyright labels, or worse still, from scratchy old vinyl. Quite often their booklet information is flawed if there is any. Either it gets copied from dodgy sources like Wikipedia, or it simply comes out of their arse. Here there is none. But the reason they sell them cheap is that they don't have to pay royalties. This rot pot of a label must not be confused with a US official label of the same name who are unconnected. It is just as well this is four CDs with 100 tracks for around £10. It contains both sides of all the US Motown singles from 1959 to January 1961, plus Motown related singles from Lamont Anthony (Dozier) and Johnny (Bristol) & Jackie (Beaver). All of the Motown tracks here can be found in much better sound quality on a box set on Motown itself - The Complete Motown Singles Volume 1, 1959-1961. Obviously, these tracks were recorded long before the Motown label developed their distinctive backing sound known as the Motown sound, and all these tracks obviously had an earlier sound, and many were by the early unknowns of Motown. But none of this set gives particularly good sound quality. But I bought it for the rare non-Motown early tracks. Just as well it was cheap.

A great example of what can be achieved when a good company like "Real Gone Music" gets involved with releasing oldies. Not a bad track on this four CD pack. Why these fantastic soul sides have languished in the vaults of Motown for fifty years is anyone's guess. Its great that they have been released in quality sound. If you love early soul, you will love this boxed set. Buy without hesitation.

A Little Bit Of History
Now this is a very strange bird! At first glance you think it is a pirate issue of the first volume of the Complete Motown Singles Collection put out by the big boys, but although many of the tracks will be the same there are an awful lot more similar gems in the pack. Whereas the other sets concentrated on the Tamla/Motown/Gordy/Soul/VIP issues, this one includes a lot of the tracks that were issued on Motown Associate labels especally those like Anna and some others that probably never issued more than 4 or 5 discs. We have Embryonic Temptations, Johnny Bristol and Jackie Beavers, Marv Johnson, Lamont Dozier, all in all a very good collection for a very good price. It bears the legend Vol. 1 but has been out quite a while with no indication of a Vol. 2 following sadly.
