Mortar and Pestle

We were looking for a mortar & pestle set large enough to make it functional for mashing avocados and other veggies instead of just small herbs and spices. This is really a nice set with the inside just rough enough to make for a good surface for grinding. The outside is smooth, though not highly polished into a gloss. Nicely rustic but doesn't damage the counter tops. My only negative is that when it was sent, the pestle was free to roll about the box and I'm amazed there wasn't damage to either the mortar or pestle! Some protective packing needs to be considered for future shipments.

Dimensions mortar bowl outside diameter 5.5" inside diameter 4.25" , height 4 1/8" , mortar inside depth bottom to rim 2.50", now for pestle 6.25" length and 1.5" wide on the grinding end and 1" on the top handle end. Well I got mixed reviews about this one and I am glad I still ordered it and got it, the price is not that off if you get free shipping. I like using mortar and pestles, got several in different styles some white oak, olive wood, some other wood and a Mexican volcanic rock, a smaller marble one and a large Thai granite one. This one is in the middle size range as the Thai one I got dwarfs this one when you put them next to each other. It is a very pretty mortar and pestle very nice color its not that heavy you can move it around with ease unless you got weak arms or you are not used to carrying anything. It is machine made in China but with a very good quality control it is polished on the outside and raw or naked on the inside, the pestle is polished except for the grinding end. You get better grinding with a raw finish or unfinished surface. I am very happy with it and I do like my large Thai one it fits more ingredients but this one is perfect for daily use and enough to do the necessary grinding in your kitchen, plus it is so pretty to look at. I don't regret buying, it has become one of my favorite mortar and pestles out of the several I have. ***Note on bottom of mortar there is the name Jamie Oliver 2 engraved on it, don't know it might be the second edition or improved design of the mortar and pestle, don't know.

Good size for most jobs, big enough to have some heft and roughness to help with grinding.But would not grind anything over 1/2 cup. Make sure to season by grinding some rock salt first to get rid of any random fleck of stone from manufacturing process

This mortar and pestle is a nice large size and is perfect for my needs. It has not chipped or cracked. I like the large size because it's got a large enough bowl to muddle lots of herbs together at once, or breakdown a large amount of herbs.

It's a kitchen gadget, I smash lots of things in it. Easy to wash and clean, but don't drop it on your foot, or tile.

It is a chunk of granite with a rounded hole in it's middle. The concept can't be any simpler. The only complaint/suggestion I have with it is the style of the hole. It is a half sphere but might have been better with a more parabolic shape so when you are crushing some herbs, they don't have a ramp to fly out of the mortar.

This item is solid as a rock - in fact - it is a rock ! never leaves my countertop and I've found that I use this in place of my food processor for a lot of things and this is so much easier to clean up than the food processor. Love it !

I regularly use my Jamie Oliver granite mortar and pestle to grind up small bits of almond meal that won't go through the sifter when I'm making macarons; grinding them reduces them to siftable size. It's easy to use, works much better than a smaller marble one, results in less wasted ingredients, and would look great in any kitchen. It's heavy duty and does the work for you, unlike the smaller smoother marble ones that require more elbow grease and aren't as effective. Terrific quality, great price.

Got this for my birthday and I love it! The first one my husband ordered the pestle broke in half as I lifted it out of the box.Got it to the post office to send for an exchange and it was back to Amazon that day. Got a new one within 2 days.It works great! I seasoned it first by grinding it just with water in the bottom. Then I did a run through with white rice till I knew it was good to go.I've used it for making sauces and on vacation when we realized we didn't have a coffee grinder, this did the trick!I love the size and can't wait to use it more! I love how easy it is to clean out and I can just use white rice to remove and strong flavours!

Another reviewer posted about a broken pestle. Well guess what??? I think I received his broken return. If not, then that would indicate some serious quality control issues, hence '2 stars'. The box was not damaged, yet the pestle came in two pieces. The mortar is big and heavy however. I love that part. It makes me feel like I'm doing something really old-school when crushing and pulverizing my boswellia carteri. Zen. (Yes despite the broken pestle.). You might want to steer clear of this company and go with something else. The marble style mort and pestle offers alot of grit and grain in the bowl, and it really helps breaking down resins and nuts and what not. Stick with marble, but go with a different company.

Just the right size for salsas please follow the guide to season the Mortar and pestle correctly and it will be the start of excelent salsas for your kitchen and table very impressive appearance pleasing to the eye and very handy.Please enjoy as I will

It was bigger than I thought as I’m using it to crush incense resin. It’s beautiful tho. Good weight, well made. Will have this for life. A good purchase
