Carrera Precision CP7906 0-Inch to 6-Inch Electronic Fractional & Decimal Digital Caliper

This is my 4th try at finding a decent digital caliper from local stores and thru the Internet. This one is by far the winner. . .the only one that didn't go back.This is an Auto-On device. Whether you turn it off, or it has gone off automatically while not in use, the first time you move the slide it "wakes up" and begins reading immediately. Even if the caliper is not in the fully closed position, it seems to remember where ii was. In other words you don't have to close the caliper and Zero it. . .even though I usually do. I have seen it toggle the least significant digit after zeroing, but that is at the level of 0.000n" .This device uses a "Linear Capacitive Measuring System" which according to Wikipedia and other measurement sources is a considerable advancement beyond what we are accustomed to dealing with. I recently used it to measure some jewelers drills and it was 100% accurate on dimensions like .0320 inches. The display is also slightly larger than the others I tested. I even tries moving the caliper jaws rapidly to see if I could get it to mis-measure and I could not make it fail. Your results may vary :-)While I'm hardly short of math skills, the direct readout in fractions really is great, especially with drill bits with unreadable markings.The construction is by and large superior. This one has an adjustment thumb wheel which was missing from some of the other ones I tried. It makes it far easier to use. It also includes a locking screw which is often useful in a caliper.The apparent stainless steel metal construction is excellent, although some of the edges seem sharp enough that you might be able to shave your legs with it. I have not cut myself but am considering burnishing some of the edges just a bit.I've had no problems with battery life. Mine is still working fine on the first of two batteries. It gets used a couple times in the average week, sometimes much more and I've had it over three months now.It comes with a well-made hard plastic case with a custom fit insert and an extra battery. While many of the products from China are specified and accepted by US companies to low standards (Import Crap) this one shows that product quality can be achieved at a top tier level.

This is an inexpensive digital caliper that can take accurate measurements, assuming that you set its zero point correctly. It has a number of useful measuring modes, as well as a fractional inch display.When measuring in millimeters, the digits to the right of the decimal point are at about half height, which I like, because the decimal point doesn't really stand out too well on the display.The only problem is that this device does not have a low power "off" mode. The "on/off" button only seems to affect the display, with the difference in power consumption between the two states being very minimal.Measured current:~19.5 micro amps ("off")~20.5 micro amps (on)One interesting thing is that the current spikes to ~74 micro amps if you press and hold either the unit or zero buttons.Although this is a low power device, you can expect to change the battery about every half year (or more, depending on the type of battery that you use) if you let it sit unused while it's "off". It makes more sense to just remove the battery if you're not planning on using it for a while. The battery cover is initially hard to remove, but this seems to become easier after repeated removals.

I am very happy with this Carrera Precision Tool. I can convert from fractions to decimal to inches with just the click of a button. I also like the fact that it comes with a case and extra batteries and that it has all three ways to measure. Many cheaper precision tools do not have a depth guage and this one does, in addition to that it is the ruler is of heavy metal. My last one was made of plastic carbon material which I didnt like. With this precision tool I can measure the inside of an object like the inside of a socket, and the outside of a something like the lip of a container or box and the depth of tire treads. I do not know if you need to remove the battery after each use but to test it I left it in for two weeks and it seems to be ok. I am very thrilled with this and the price was the cheapest I found for the quality of this tool.

I very much like the precision of this caliper. The fractional readout is very helpful with the woodworking I do. It's much better than the cheap digital calipers. It's metal construction feels sturdy and like it will last. I like the on/off button to save some battery life. The thumb wheel is rolls smoothly and can adjust the caliper precisely. The case it comes with was a surprise (I didn't know it came with a case) and is also of good quality. It's made of thick plastic with a solid hinge, and it doesn't feel cheap. The case has a nice black finish and quality foam inserts for the caliper. Another surprise was that it comes with a primary and an extra battery! Great product Carrera! Buy it!

I recently received this product. Since I do a lot of automotive hobby work on my '66 GTO restomod, I've found a need for a fractional caliper tool so I can determine what bolt I may need for any given application. My wife also used it for sizing the gooseneck and seat post for her bicycle and the grand kids bikes. If you are thinking about purchasing one of the these tools, I highly recommend this one since it has fractions. It comes with an extra battery and a nice hard case.

This caliper is excellent for the price. The only issues it has that I have found is the thumb wheel does not work very well and the button that changes the measurement conversion is in a bad location. I find myself hitting it constantly and changing the setting. On the plus side, it appears very accurate. The thumb screw locks it in place well so you can repeat measurements. I am a woodworker and it is all the tool I need. I am sure there are nicer one's out there, but this is all the caliper I need.
