Awesome
Really am enjoying this book. The pattern layouts are great and so helpful to visualize what an end product will look like

Love this book.
Great little book on traditional fair Isle by one of the most knowledgeable of knitters. Wonderful photos Lots of stitch charts but they are for the patterns, not colors. No garment patterns to knit from. I love this book although it is now 35 years old. Hurrah for Dover reprints.

A nice resource!
The book is nice, but it depends on what you want. If you're looking for patterns, like for hats or sweaters: there aren't any in this book & it's probably not for you. It does provide information like history and (un-numbered) charts for some of the color patterns, like peeries and borders. They kind of look like they're done by hand, though they are sufficient for inspiration. I did randomly notice several blank pages at the end. Overall, well written for what I read so far. Also of note: photos are a combination of color and b & w, mostly black & white.

I go weak in the knees for Fair Isle...
If you love Fair Isle you NEED this book. My non knitting friends love this one! They think I'm so clever because I can knit some of these (some are way too complicated, but I'm working on them!). I try to be modest about it but some are just so easy to follow it is crazy that they turn out as well as they do! Fun book just to look at the pictures even if you never knit a thing from it!!

Look no further
Is there anyone who doesn't love Sheila MacGregor? There's a lot going on in this slim volume: the history of Fair Isle knitting, techniques and motifs. Ms. MacGregor has found historical photos to illustrate the techniques she's discussing. If you want something definitive (and be warned: it's in black and white) and with a complete selection of Fair Isle motifs, this is it.

TRADITIONAL FAIR ISLE Knitting DOVER
This is a great book and good to have it as it is older and more patterns and examples then most. I should say this is historical

Great book, I use my copy constantly
Fantastic book of Fair Isle Patterns, if you are interested in a pattern book of traditional Fair Isle designs this is the book for you! However this book is mostly a pattern book than a how-to instruction guide. Like her book on Nordic designs the author assumes the knitting is somewhat familiar with the technique, that said if a beginner starts out with the simpler designs that have no more than five to seven stitches between the rows they should be fine. Also the designs in either book can be used as either traditional Fair Isle where the background colors change in the middle of the design sequence or in the traditional Nordic version where one background color is used throughout a design pattern. While they are technically two different styles of knitting, both Scotland and the Nordic countries have strong historical connections and many basic designs are found in both places.
